Learn about the platform, how to set up your profile, & more

About this guide

This guide will introduce you to Atmos by WarpLight and WarpLight Accounts, assist with helping you set up your Atmos profile, and give you several tips to utilize the platform to the fullest.

Introduction

Welcome!

Atmos by WarpLight is a reverse chronological social platform, where each user can create posts, share media, congregate, and more. Users can write up to 5,000 characters in each post, while also including up to 4 images for them to display simultaneously in a grid, or up to 30 images for them to display as an album. Other attachments include polls, videos, web links, Twitter embeds, and more.

Tip: Each individual image can be up to 10 MB and 16 MP in size, with up to 30 total images, allowing for up to 300 MB and 480 MP in each post.

Atmos also consists of communities and collections, which are user-created groups and categories that can contain posts. Communities are groups of users who can post to specific categories within a community, and can interact with each other’s posts. Collections allow users to post directly into them, which are functionally equivalent to folders, helping to keep posts organized.

Thanks to the power of the reverse chronological system, Atmos dynamically displays a series of posts from other users that you follow, communities you are a part of, and other user’s collections that you’re following. This is called the home feed, and auto-magically updates throughout the day as new posts are made.

Getting started

WarpLight Accounts

When using WarpLight platforms and services such as Atmos, you may be required to make an account in order to start utilizing the platform or service. This account is called a WarpLight Account, and works across all of WarpLight’s platforms and services. This account stores necessary information for our platforms and services to function, and allows you to access our platforms and services from anywhere, anytime.

Before you create your WarpLight Account through Atmos, you’ll need to agree to the WarpLight Terms of Service, Atmos Privacy Policy, and Atmos Platform Guidelines, which are available on Medium: https://medium.com/@warplight.

Once you’re ready to create a WarpLight Account and start building your Atmos profile, head to https://atmos.warplight.dev/register and complete the registration steps. Once completed, you will have claimed the username you’ve chosen, which will be associated to your Atmos profile. Your new WarpLight Account will also be associated with the email you’ve provided during registration.

Note: Instructions that you can perform will be italicized in full, with steps for desktop and tablet users being written first, followed by mobile users.

To protect your WarpLight Account and to make sure you continue to receive important alerts related to your WarpLight Account, be sure to verify your email address. You can do this by clicking the Settings tab on desktops or tablets, or by tapping the default astronaut user icon in the upper left corner, followed by WarpLight Account towards the top of the list if using a smaller tablet or a mobile device. Follow the prompts in order to verify your email address, then check your email’s inbox for next steps. You can also change your email address within this area if you’ve made a mistake during registration.

Setting up your Atmos profile

Once you’ve finished verifying your email address associated with your WarpLight Account, you can begin to customize your Atmos profile! To start, click the Settings tab on desktops or tablets, then click the Profile tab on the left. If you’re using a mobile device or smaller tablet, tap the astronaut icon in the upper left corner, followed by Profile. Next, use the available buttons to upload your own icon and profile banner image from your device to replace the default images. If you get an error mentioning that an image you’ve chosen is too large, try compressing it to a smaller size using third-party utilities or with options available in your operating system, or select a different image. Afterwards, use the available fields to modify your username, first and last name, birthday, and more to your liking.

Atmos uses the First “Username” Last format. If you use a first and last name in your Atmos profile, your username will be dynamically hidden and revealed depending on the context, such as when a user previews your profile by hovering a cursor over your icon on a desktop, or when viewing your Atmos profile by opening it. Users can also mention you by your username. If you leave the first and last name fields empty and save your changes, Atmos will display your username at all times.

Important note: A username is required to use Atmos, and only one instance of a username can be active at a time. If you cannot save your changes due to a claimed username, try a different one.

Start exploring!

Once you’ve configured your Atmos profile exactly as you’ve imagined it, feel free to continue exploring other settings available to you in Settings! You can change your theme mode and accent color in Appearance & theme, enable push notifications for supported browsers in Notification settings, change the platform’s language in Platform Settings, and start creating custom groups you can add users into in the Groups tab.

To leave settings, click Home in the header bar on desktops or tablets, or on mobile, tap the home icon in the bottom left corner. Once you begin following users on Atmos, your home feed will dynamically update with their posts. Any communities you join and any collections you follow will also appear in your home feed.

To start finding people to follow, collections that may catch your interest, and communities you want to be a part of, click the Discover tab in the header bar, or tap your newly set icon in the upper left corner, then tap Discover. In the Discover area, you’ll be able to see posts, communities, and collections which may be new to you. Feel free to start your journey here, or make a public post on your profile, which too will show in the discover area, allowing other users to welcome you!

We strongly suggest that you share the link to your Atmos profile to others you may know so they can follow you as well, or be introduced to the Atmos platform. To get to your profile from anywhere on Atmos, click your icon in the upper right corner of the header bar, then click your username or email address. On mobile, tap your icon in the upper left, then tap your username or email address.

Tip: To close the slide-out pane after tapping your icon on mobile devices, simply tap anywhere on the right side outside of the pane.
