As he walked into Gary’s party, he noticed the “guest” on the other side of the room. He felt a swirl of emotions as he stood just a few feet away from the great man he had been told of since childhood. A living legend!

The guest was dressed in a holly-berry red suit. He was much more rotund than expected and had a flowing white beard. He had a broad face, and a little round belly that shook when he laugh’d, like a bowl full of jelly.

At this point, Jack threw the pencil down in disgust.

Why was Santa at the party? Why was this story turning into Twas the Night Before Christmas? Jack was appalled at his uninspired writing. He took another look at the writing prompt and immediately realized his mistake:

You arrive at a friend’s house one night, and you meet Satan.

Jack sighed as he threw the paper away and started over.

This story is a play on Warrior Writer’s Writing Prompt #8: You arrive at a friend’s house one night, and you meet the devil.

Willis G. Ford was born a wide-eyed nom de plume on a foggy day in February 1849. He lives to pollute the world with little pieces of non-biodegradable prose.
