The Note

She woke up. Her mouth was parched, so she reached for the glass of water on the bedside table. The glow of the alarm clock boldly displayed 3 am.

As she set the glass down, she saw a handwritten note on his pillow that read:

Don’t worry, I took care of the body.

She sighed.

Even after 28 years of marriage, she still had to put up with the stale humor of a third-shift on-call coroner.
