Mirror Mirror on the Wall
noticing. . .
discerning magical shadows . .
feeling reflections of negative projections. . .
being hopping mad, these crazy chi suckers,
jumping away from mirrors, thinking another demon, . . .
looking at them, trying to absorb the energy of their victims, . . .
seeing these ugly zombies, mistaking them as Oriental vampires, . . .
going to Chinatown watching Shaw Brothers films, Mr. Vampire flicks
seeing in my own house, such undead children wanting back their.
forever lost childhood, crying and wanting “boa,” eternal justice.
instructing that they are dead and becoming reborn again . . . .
hearing their tears, Asians seeing ghosts, touching demons
understanding that hell is never after death, we . . .
creating hell on earth or projecting heaven, . .
living only in the here and now, . . .
loving them, hugging them, . .
crying with them, . .
love, love . . .
love. . . .
. . . .Thank you.. . growing up, I would watch Asian vampires or JiāngShī 殭 屍 in Chinatown films; coming home, I would see real ones sitting in my bedroom, lost in the liminal space between death and rebirth, trying to help them, such was my childhood, growing up and becoming a scholar of Asian horror.
