WarwickTECH is a charity that exists to build, educate and drive a diverse and inclusive community of technology makers, creators, innovators, enthusiasts and entrepreneurs at Warwick University through exciting speaker events, intimate networking sessions, distinguished panels and flagship hackathons organised alongside leading tech companies, government bodies, charities and industry influencers. Through these events and activities, we provide our members with the opportunity to learn new technical and digital business skills, build exciting technology products, seek interesting career paths and solve the most challenging societal problems.

Design Lead

The design lead is responsible for designing branding materials such as Facebook event banners, flyers and general documents that will be used internally and externally by the other departments such as Marketing and Partnerships.

The main duties and responsibilities include designing branding materials and taking photos during events.

Essential Requirements:

  • Good time management
  • Ability to take feedback and constructive criticism
  • Basic experience in Adobe InDesign and illustrator
  • Team-working skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work, learn and improve

What does success in the role look like:

A successful design lead is someone who can manage their time and is able to prioritize the tasks effectively since there can sometimes be multiple tasks at once. This person is not afraid to share their own thoughts but also listens to other people’s ideas and opinions and adjusts the designs accordingly. Furthermore, a good design lead is proactive, communicates with the team and assists the WarwickTECH events.

Engineering Lead

The Engineering Lead is responsible for making the WarwickTECH mission, events, and team accessible to students and partners via easy-to-use and appealing websites.

The main duties and responsibilities are managing the website, creating any new desired websites, and managing WarwickTECH GitHub repositories.

Essential Requirements:

  • Familiarity with web design
  • Desire to learn quickly
  • The ability to work independently
  • Experience with GitHub and Bootstrap (desirable)

What does success in the role look like:

A successful Engineering Lead is someone who is able to translate the team’s vision and deliver the desired features on the WarwickTECH website. This person will have good planning and time management skills, whilst remaining flexible to changes. They will also engage with the team with events and offer support to other roles when needed.

Marketing Lead

Summary of the Role:

The marketing lead is responsible for ensuring all WarwickTECH events are effectively promoted, while making sure that our community of hackers and tech-enthusiasts continues to grow. Your responsibilities will include overseeing a team of executives and making sure that they showcase the society in a positive light and draw a targeted audience’s attention towards our events; being in charge of all WarwickTECH social media platforms; creating posts about top tech news and trends; providing front-line support to aspiring techies across all our online and offline channels.

The main responsibility of the role is promoting WarwickTECH events through of all our existing social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Medium.

  • Broad interest in the current happenings in tech
  • Strategic planning of event promotions and society awareness
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Team-working skills

What does success in the role look like:

A successful Marketing lead is someone who knows about current technology trends, can successfully network, and is driven to reach attendance targets for every event. They can address issues/questions of the attendees. Most importantly, the can successfully promote the WarwickTECH events, being able to spark the interest of new attendees.

Tech Lead

Summary of the Role:

You will be responsible for organising our flagship event (we have successfully run 7 hackathons in the last 5 years and we’ve no intention of stopping); overseeing the WarwickHACK team; making sure all the necessary preparations are made, and that everything runs smoothly throughout the event (including managing sponsorship, partnerships, marketing, venue arrangements, catering, schedule etc.)

Overall, the main responsibility of this role is organising and running the hackathons

  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and think on your feet when things change
  • Team-working skills

What does success in the role look like:

A successful Tech Lead will have participated in hackthons in the past and therefore knows how the events should run. They also have experience running events and have exceptional organisational skills. They can successfully engage the other team members in arrangement of the events: marketing, design and any other assistance.

The Tech Lead Reports to the VP Community

Operations Lead

Summary of the Role:

You will be responsible for checking and logging the accounts of WarwickTECH as a charitable incorporated organisation (this includes making sure that our accounts are well prepared for the charity board’s annual review); Processing all the payments and reimbursements.

The legal aspects of this role require you to: a. Create contracts for sponsors confirmed by the Partnerships Lead. b. Ensure that all the Charities Commission’s requirements are met and complied with (as WarwickTECH operates as a charity).

You will also be required to implement technology in order to improve the operational efficiency of the society (for example optimising the team’s use of Slack, Notion and GSuite).

Your main responsibility is ensuring that all reimbursements are processed within a reasonable time period as well as updating our sponsorship agreements for each partner of the year.

The ability to perform all tasks promptly and accurately, with attention to detail, to ensure the society can operate effortlessly.

Ecosystem Lead

Summary of the Role:

You will be responsible for organising and running technical or technology focused events run by WarwickTECH during term time. You will be expected to deliver at least 1 technical workshop or speaker session every month of terms 1 and 2. This is in part an external facing role, meaning you will be in direct contact with WarwickTECH’s existing network of professionals in the tech industry, and develop a network of your own. This role is for someone who is naturally creative and knows how to engage attendees and workshop leaders. The events contribute meaningfully to the creating of tech hub at Warwick.

The main duties and responsibilities involve organising monthly speaker sessions and collaborating with other societies.

Essential Requirements:

  • Good time management
  • Enthusiasm and strong interpersonal skills
  • Some knowledge of the technology industry
  • Experience using a programming language(s) (desirable)
  • Team-working skills

What does success in the role look like:

The successful Ecosystem lead will have good communication skills both written and verbal. They will organise successful events in advance and communicate to the other team members the things that should be done in order to prepare for the event: the facebook event, required designs and ticketing (if necessary).

The Ecosystem Lead Reports to the VP Community

Partnerships Lead

Summary of the Role:

You will be responsible for generating strategic sponsors and partnerships in both industry and community; maintaining long term relationships with previous and new sponsors by regular communications; procurement of sponsorship funds and negotiating terms; acting as an intermediary between leadership and external partners.

The main responsibility of this role is reaching out to different organisations asking to sponsor WarwickTECH, getting funds to run WarwickTECH events.

  • Ability to be proactive and make decisions quickly
  • Team-working skills

What does success in the role look like:

The successful Partnership Lead will have good communication skills both written and verbal. They will be able to sell the vision of WarwickTECH and bring sponsors on board. This role is predominantly externally facing, therefore they know to always represent WarwickTECH in the best light. They will also have flexibility time-wise to make trips to London and careers fairs when needed to network and develop new leads.

Startup Lead

Summary of the Role:

The Startup Lead plays an important role in contributing to WarwickTECH’s goal of encouraging the creation of a sustainable and exemplary startup culture at the university. The successful Startup Lead is someone who has a lot of passion for startups and tech, and enjoys networking.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Organising Startup Day, the biggest startup event of the year, which includes inspirational speaker sessions and a networking event with current Warwick startup founders and alumni.
  • Running Campus Startup, WarwickTECH’s monthly meet up for entrepreneurial students, in Bar Fusion.
  • Organising logistics for WarwickTECH team to represent at TechDay in London.
  • Building relationships with Warwick’s startups
  • Building relationships with other Warwick Societies to run collaborative events on entrepreneurship and technology.

Essential Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for startups and tech
  • Good time management and ability to work alongside studies
  • Fantastic networking skills (both interpersonal and online)
  • Ability to lead a team and work with others

What does success in the role look like:

A Startup Lead will successfully organise events, like Startup Day, Campus Startup and collaborative events with Warwick societies, well in advance, find appropriate speakers through personal and new contacts, whilst coordinating with the team. He/she will be able to be an active member of the networking events, and build relations with other startup-based societies on campus and startup founders.

VP Community

Summary of the Role:

WarwickTECH aims to bring in people who have an interest in tech together and provide engaging events in different areas of technology to the university. The role involves leading the Tech Lead, the Ecosystem Lead, the Engineering Lead and the Startup Lead to deliver their events and responsibilities.

The community team is in charge of organising the WarwickTECH events, including the flagship events, and the VP Community has to ensure the successful execution of events.

The main duties and responsibilities include making sure that the team is happy with their work, the team objectives are met and that all operations run smoothly. Interact with all members of the team on a regular basis and with the President.

  • Leadership skills
  • Background knowledge of the technology industry
  • Ability problem solve quickly to respond to challenges that may arise
  • Some experience with event management

What does success in the role look like:

A successful VP Community is someone who is willing to take up responsibility for their team members, therefore it is someone who has both good communication and leadership skills. They are flexible and can react in fast changing environment.
