The Washington State Legislature created the Office of CyberSecurity (OCS) in 2015 to provide strategic direction for cybersecurity and protect state networks from growing cyber threats.

OCS, and its team of cybersecurity experts, detect, block and respond to cyberattacks on state networks. The office helps prevent and mitigate threats before they can cause significant damage.

In addition, the office works with state, local government and military agencies to build more secure networks and has teams that can respond on a moment’s notice to help agencies deal with cyber threats.

Our office also is working to make everyone more aware of cyber threats through educational outreach, holding public forums and providing tips and advice about how to stay safe online.

OUR MISSION: TO KEEP THE STATE’S DATA SAFE AND SECURE

Our state’s economic prosperity, security and commitment to individual privacy depend on our ability to defend against cyber threats. The threats continue to evolve, and so must our defense against them. OCS provides policy and technology leadership for state government and promotes cooperation and coordination between regional and national governments and private business.

State Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

Phil Davis is Washington State’s acting chief information security officer, appointed by the state CIO. The state CISO is responsible for establishing and leading the strategic direction of cybersecurity for Washington State, and advising the Governor and Legislators on key cyber issues.
