Job title: Talent Acquisition Consultant
What year did you start at DES? 2012
What year did you begin working for Washington state? 2011
In two sentences or less, describe what you do at DES.
I am a talent acquisition consultant and perform full-cycle recruiting for a few assigned divisions within the agency.
How do you believe your role supports the DES mission of strengthening the business of government?
The talent acquisition team partners with hiring managers to understand their hiring needs. In my role, I strategize ways to recruit and source high-quality diverse candidates that will bring their experiences and skills to support the mission of DES.
In what ways do you experience DES values in your everyday work? (respect; integrity; excellence; diversity, equity & inclusion)
As an employee, I work with an incredibly supportive and respectful team and feel that I can bring my true authentic self to work. As a recruiter, I am fortunate enough to be in a division that is constantly learning and evolving through training, open conversations, etc. I am working to learn methods to attract diverse candidates, removing bias from the hiring process, and writing job descriptions that demonstrate to candidates how they will be included and valued here at DES.
What did you do before working at DES?
I spent six years as an executive assistant at a corporate office for a nationwide lumber company. I absolutely loved the fast-paced and ever-changing environment supporting a team of six executive leaders. I was very sad when our office was closed and the functions were moved to Denver, CO. I couldn’t convince my husband (who has lived within a 5-mile radius almost his entire life) to move, so that is when I started my search for work within the public sector. I’m so glad I did!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I am not busy chasing my 10-month-old granddaughter around, I enjoy trying new restaurants with my husband, testing a new recipe out in the kitchen, or just sitting around a fire with friends.
What is a fun fact about you?
I am Christmas obsessed. I put five Christmas trees up throughout my house. If you have had a Zoom meeting with me anytime between mid-October through the beginning of January, you’ve probably seen one of them behind me in my home office. I love visiting Christmas bazaars and other events, hosting holiday-themed dinners with friends, and CAN NOT wait until my granddaughter is old enough to help bake Christmas cookies.
