In two sentences or less, describe what you do at DES.
I lead a small yet dynamic team that manages the approximately 7,000 parking stalls throughout the Capitol Campus in Olympia. This includes adapting to construction challenges and the needs of both visitors and state employees.

How do you believe your role supports the DES mission of strengthening the business of government?
My role and the efforts of the entire parking team strengthen the business of government by enabling the smoother, more effective completion of others’ roles.

In what ways do you experience DES values in your everyday work? (respect; integrity; excellence; diversity, equity & inclusion)
In my experience, DES has a culture that places emphasis and the needed action required to live up to the cornerstones of DES values. Through the constant efforts of DES staff, the result is an enthusiastic commitment, not begrudging compliance to our values.

What did you do before working at DES?
Prior to DES, I worked in corporate sales/operations management for FedEx and as an operation manager for Hertz Rental.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending quality time with my wife, Kimberley, and our seven-month-old daughter, Grace. I also love to travel (favorite destinations include Alaska, Tanzania, Scotland and New Zealand). I am also someone who enjoys a good strategy game, preferably board games.

What is a fun fact about you?
I spent a significant portion of my 20s working in national parks. This included living in Alaska in a small ocean-locked town of 400 people and spending a full winter living in a single-room cabin.
