Anita Larkin shares some creative inspiration with the UpLovers

Illawarra artist Anita Larkin came to visit the Uplovers this month to impart some of her exceptional skills and unleash the local creativity found in our Uplovers crew.

Found object sculpture is the business of creatively playing with discarded objects, until they fall into a new creative work. There is no better place to hold such a workshop than at Resource Recovery Park!

This workshop required the search for discarded objects, a proper workspace and access to a range of hand and power tools. The very kind chaps from the Wallis Lake Men’s Shed were happy to share their part of the site for the 3 days.

Anita’s work is thought provoking, playful and skilled.

Our Upcycling crew arrived with car boots full of random and personal objects that meant something to them. Objects collected over many years; grabbed along the way; or found on site from our Green Shop.

With such a unique and creative mind on hand, the group got to think through their creations and learn a range of new skills to deconstruct and re-join their objects.

Over the 3 days all those involved saw their new skills and creations come to life. Katrina decided there was no more tennis for this racquet…

Michelle moved her upcycled weather vane sculpture over to the Green Bikes shed to get things cranking…

And Mignon’s stellar sculpture created a magical sense of wonder for this little visitor….

While local artist Kelly Austin made this beauty!

The UpLovers want to thank Anita for bringing her creativity and passion to our local group of interested makers and tinkerers.

Anita really widened the imaginations of everyone who attended, and the opportunities to create from the many resources available at Resource Recovery Park just got that little bit greater!

And many thanks to the Wallis Lakes Men’s Shed for their fantastic premises!
