Hey All!

We’ve got another feature-packed update for you, as well as some fixes and stability improvements, so here’s the TL;DR and afterwards I’ll go in depth for those who want to know more:

  • Photo Support (jpg & png)
  • (Beta) Cast Videos to Littlstar Cinema with UPnP
  • Enable forcing 3D videos to playback in 2D
  • Stability Improvements & Bug Fixes

Photo Support

For a while now, Photo support has been a much requested feature, and while it may seem simpler than videos, restructuring and generalizing a code-base to go from a specific media type (video) to supporting an expanse of types (video, photo, and ahem…maybe eventually music) is quite a task. So we’re happy to finally roll this feature in the wild and see what you think! We’ll also be updating the UI soon to make it easier to navigate the expanded media types, so as always, feel free to reach out here with suggestions and requests!

UPnP Casting

Another exciting, and pretty big (experimental) feature we’re launching is the ability to cast videos and photos to Littlstar Cinema through UPnP. This means you’ll be able to cast and control playback of videos from your phone or computer straight to the Littlstar Cinema app! We’ve created a more technical support page here in case you want to enable the feature, or if you just care to know more about the applications that support casting through UPnP.

Forcing Monoscopic Playback

So a common complaint over the years has been that some stereoscopic videos out there can cause pain and strain in the eyes, whether because of poor filming or poor playback on our part. To ameliorate this, we’ve added an option in the player UI to make it possible to force a 3D video to render in 2D. While ideally we’d be able to map every camera setting and lens out there, for now we see this as a simple way and a short-term fix to enable you to still enjoy your content without going cross-eyed!

Stability Improvements & Bug Fixes

And finally, we wanted to thank all of you who reported bugs! We fixed the UPnP sort-by-date issue, improved RSS thumbnail image loading, and caught a few other UI freezing issues.

As always, thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to see what you think!

Take care,
Brandon @ Littlstar
