Over the last year, I have been chasing my passion for water colouring. It has been a fun experience. I have learned a lot, and there is much more to learn. But in these few months, I realised quite a few myths worth writing about. Knowing these will save you a lot of money and unnecessary investment in these products. More importantly, it will save you a ton of time! ⏰

  1. Brand talk: Don't be hung up on brushes and pigments from particular companies. You will discover this on your own time. And when you explore it on your terms, it's way more fun than someone telling you about it.
  2. Practice on good paper (300gsm). Your watercolour paper should be at least 300gsm if you are doing wet-on-wet techniques. If you are unsure what methods your painting may need ahead of time — this is a problem. Yes, even as a beginner. Break down the picture into parts. Know your puzzle pieces before you hold a brush in your hand. It is imperative.
  3. It's okay to have a painting go all yucky. Failure is your friend as you learn a new skill or master one you know. Embrace your failure. You will learn ten times faster. I…
