Women’s Entrepreneurship @ Waterkant
Here is why we support women’s entrepreneurship at Waterkant: even in Germany, one of the most developed countries in the world, women still earn less money than men, there are fewer women in leading positions and — get this — less than 15% of all (tech) founders are women.
So here’s to Kirsten, one of our very own Waterkant curators, who is not only a brilliant and successful business woman and reseacher, but also inspires other women to found companies and bring their ideas to life. Kirsten is bringing women’s entrepreneurship to Waterkant and we can’t wait to experience all the great workshops happening around this important topic.

Why is it that we need separate programmes to enable women? For starters, there is a phenomenon called self-efficacy, which all genders can show a deficit of, however, in many cases it occurs with women — especially in contexts related to masculinity as entrepreneurship. Research has shown that, given the same exact skills, men would always rate their performance much higher than women. This is something that our curator Kirsten is trying to change. Secondly, the perception of women in society still needs to transform, starting with more girls choosing MINT subjects in school and getting rid of stereotypes from an early age on.
