Fortnite Season 5 is officially out! There are many different changes in this new season, and this article will run down the major changes that Epic Games has done with their game: Fortnite, Battle Royale!

Comparison of Season 4 Map and Season 5 Map

Above, you can clearly see that in the southeast section of the map, there is a sandy /desert section, very noticeable since there prior to season 5, the entire map was primarily green. In it, the racetracks from season 4 are now part of the desert biome. As well as a new city/area on the map called Paradise Palms. This new Paradise Palms has taken over the location once known as Moisty Mire, as well as replacing the broken prison. Another change is apparent on the giant mountain southeast of Snobby Shores. There used to be just a couple small shacks and houses on the mountain, however now, it has become an area that has a Nordic / Ancient Greek ship, some water, and also some Nordic / Ancient Greek designed buildings and huts. In the very center of the map, it is also pretty obvious, that the once gigantic divot, made by a meteor in prior to season 4, has been covered up by many trees, and is almost completely covered by greenery. In the northwest section of the map, the short-lived soccer stadium has disappeared and is seemingly replaced with nothing but greenery. The final big change that Epic Games has made to the map this season is the removal of Anarchy Acres, and anew implementation of a city: Lazy Links. Those are the most obvious changes, however, there are more discrete changes but still changes nonetheless.

The small craters that have been created in season 4 have now all been covered up and replaced by greenery. Also, the infamous Durr Burger and Tomato Head have both been either replaced or relocated. The Durr Burger has been moved just outside of Loot Lake, on a hill. The Tomato Head, sorry tomato head fans, but the Tomato Head is nowhere to be found. In addition to minor map changes, there are also many changes in aspects of the game between the seasons.

The hop rocks, the known innovator of gameplay in season 4 have now been removed, however, this should not be a surprise, considering as season 4 progressed, the hop rocks gradually declined in appearance and became more and rarer and scattered. The shopping carts from last season are here to stay, however, there is a new “vehicle” that you can drive around. The golf cart was introduced with along in season 5. The golf cart is bulkier, slightly more difficult to maneuver, however, unlike the 2 seat shopping cart, the golf cart can fit your entire squad (of 4). Also, a huge change this season is the introduction of “rifts” in Fortnite Battle Royale. Rifts are in very close relation to the theme of Season 5, and if you enter the rift, it basically takes you very up high in the air, and lets to drop/glide down to wherever you’d like… essentially like a launchpad, but the launchpad’s cooler cousin.
