Happy Friday! Before the Labor Day weekend kicks off, we wanted to bring you up to speed with all of the progress we’ve made this past month on wave.ac.

By now, there’s no doubt that many of you have seen the countless and ample updates we’ve made to the service over the past few months. But this month, we have been wrapping up our redesign so that we can move on to developing and designing new features for you. Which, speaking of you all, we’re glad to say that we have now onboarded the vast majority of our closed beta members. There’s over 200 of you helping us test and build wave.ac into a better service now, and we are grateful for your help and feedback. Here’s the rundown of what moves we’ve made this past month.

Introducing: New Track Pages

Earlier this week, we pushed a massive redesign of one of the most essential pages on the site — track pages. The new page gives your songs, podcasts, sets, and audio notes a fresh and emotive new look. You’ll find that the page is now better organized and easier on the eyes. The page headers now have colour accenting that is derived from your cover art, as well.

In the future, we’ll build upon the new track pages to bring more options for sharing, more opportunities to customize your track pages, and ways to credit everyone involved in a track.

Introducing: New Profile Page

In addition to pushing new track pages, we pushed an all new profile page design. This new profile page has dedicated tabs for the artist’s stream, their about — which has their biography, links, and following/follower counts — and other things such as likes, who they follow and who follows them.

Because of the new wide header, we decided to increase the size of banner images to 1920x350. Make sure to make these changes to your profile, as your old banner will not automatically be set to fit the new one.

That said, we have already fielded recommendations from users that they’d like their stats to be more prominently featured on their profiles. We will address this request once the site has a larger user base (since we are still in beta, and our number of users is limited.)

New Notifications

Some of you might notice that we have changed notifications from a page to a dropdown container. Now, you have the ability to see all your notifications and clear them, which is a welcome change over having a dedicated page.

We also rectified a bug where the Bell icon would indicate you had a notification when you didn’t, and this should be fixed.

Other Changes

Though not deserving of its own exciting paragraph, we completely redesigned our playbar to be skinnier and more sleek.

We also made additions to the stream sidebar (as we promised to do in our last changelog) by introducing Featured Tracks and Featured Users alongside your user & track statistics. We’ll refresh the Featured section from time-to-time with artists and tracks that the community & the team are talking about. This will be a temporary solution until we introduce the community update.

Finally, we’ve made more changes to our upload experience which should make it easier to do back-to-back uploads.

What’s Next?

We’re wrapping up our redesign and moving on to adding new features like playlists, genre pages, analytics, and more. While we’re doing this, we’re starting to build the premium subscription for wave.ac — something that will offer you a plethora of nifty features, and something which will be consistently growing and changing. Throughout September and October, we’ll be dedicated to finishing up the CORE update, launching Pro, and pushing all streaming elements out of beta.

Of course, beyond the CORE update, we have an ambitious vision which involves building a one-of-a-kind ecosystem of resources and tools that will help artists, podcasters, and audio creatives. But with consideration to our vision, it’s apparent that we need help from our supporters and community. In the next few weeks, we’ll disclose details about wavemakers — our brand ambassador program for creatives & fans who share and believe in wave.ac and want to help us share it with the world.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for their continued support of wave.ac. We can’t wait to share our progress in our next changelog. In the mean time, keep making waves. Join us by following us on Twitter, liking us on Facebook, or joining our Discord.

Thanks guys !
