Half-way through the year is a good time to revisit our resolutions and check in on how much progress we have actually made. The stats say that way before this point, we go back to normal and end up feeling guilty and unaccomplished because have abandoned most of our plans.

But July 1 can be a new lease of life, a new chance to get it right before year-end. But how?

Don’t abandon your goals, think differently about what it takes to achieve them. Don’t just ‘hope’ for everything to fall into place, target and knock down the barriers that stand in your way.

That’s exactly why we’re running our next Goalgetter: How to Set Goals and Smash Them on Thursday 12th October. We will work with a select group of #wavemakers who want results and help them to do what it takes to keep up momentum. Get your tickets here.

So, without further ado, here are three ways to make the most of what’s left of 2017:

1. Redesign your week

Between work life, family life, social life and side-hustle life it always feels like there’s no time to actually get anything done. While it may feel like you need more hours the day, what you actually need is more hours of quality activity.

Look at your schedule for the week ahead and ask yourself, what is essential and what is not?

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting the same result, right? So do something drastically different. Cut out those evenings that get wiped out by one too many glasses of wine, or stop scrolling, sleep earlier and get up earlier. It might hurt at first, but it’ll pay dividends in the long-run. Something’s got to give.

2. Get creative with the resources around you

Stop focusing on the fact that you don’t have the right contacts, or the right amount of money, or the right job to get to where you need to be. While that may be slightly true, worrying about it does nothing. There are things that you DO have right now, so start with those, get creative with them and put them to work.

For example, you may not know that industry contact, but may know someone who knows someone who will invite you to an event where you’ll finally meet them. Closing the degree of separation starts with you actually taking action. Like Steve Jobs said, you can only connect the dots backwards, so don’t be shy, make the first move.

3. Test, test and test again

Big dreamers have big goals, some so crazy that you question whether it might work. The best way to figure it out is to test it on a small scale then improve from there. Fun fact: when the founders of AirBnB started, they thought they were creating a business that would encourage people to put airbeds in their homes during tech conferences. After years of tweaking, trying and testing the idea in real life, the finally came up with a business model that transformed the hospitality industry as we know it.

Don’t just commit to try, commit to testing… and testing again.

Finally… remember that you owe it to yourself

“Ten years from now, make sure you can say that you chose your life, you didn’t settle for it” — Mandy Hale

You owe it to yourself to create the best life possible, no matter what people think. The biggest naysayers are the people who wish that they had the boldness that you do. If you’re reading this, it’s not too late. If you’re reading this you have something to give to the world, so feel the fear, fight the fear and do it anyway.

Happy New Year 2.0!
