Why inspiration just isn’t enough anymore

Let’s face it, we are lucky.

Living in the internet generation, we have access to large amounts of information and can consume it pretty quickly. We ‘like’ motivational quotes, retweet gems and wisdom and watch inspirational talks from people at the top of their fields.

Getting inspired on a daily basis is great, but to make real results you’ve got to go a bit further.

You’ve got to be practical, be open and stay connected to others. Find out why these three things are essential when it comes to building a life that you are proud of:

1. Keep it practical

Lack of execution can kill even the greatest of ideas. If you’re someone who wants to make an impact, you have to be intentional about where you are going.

I’ve found this to be true in most of my personal projects which include freelance software development with the BBC and Women In Technology Outreach programs. These projects all became a reality because I put one foot forward and took action.

Put your goal in context of the bigger picture you have for your career and get to work! It’s great to be inspired by what other people have done but it’s even better to apply the tools you’ve learnt on the path to executing your long term goals.

2. Be open

In a world that loves keeping the creatives separate from the tech experts, and the tech experts separate from the corporate superstars, it’s easy to develop tunnel vision. Having specialist knowledge in your field is brilliant, but don’t knock the power of collaboration.

The truth is some of life’s most important lessons come from the most unexpected places, including people in other industries. So we break down the boxes, escape the pigeonholes and share knowledge across disciplines. Innovation is found in our differences.

That’s why with WAVEMAKERS, we are focused on helping people make the move from being inspired to taking action. Click here to join our next session: How to Set Goal and Smash Them.

3. Stay connected to others

Never underestimate the power of building a close-knit network of other people passionate about achieving their goals too. They will motivate you, challenge you and keep you accountable day in, day out. Finding your tribe is at the heart of success.

“If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.” — Ancient Proverb

Each of our WAVEMAKERS workshops is small and personal, giving you the opportunity to really get to know the person across the table. This isn’t a one-off large event with canapés and awkward conversations, we’re building a close-knit community with real connections.

And we’d like you to join us. Click here to learn How to Set Goals and Smash Them on 8th July. You can also join the #wavemakers community by clicking here.
