Waves Association distributes first Web3 Development Grants
The recipients will collect over 150,000 WAVES for the development of inter-chain tech and related use cases.
Since the application call was announced on December 1, 14 teams have applied for grants in the Web3 Development Grant category. A full list of applicants is available on the Waves Association Github.
The association’s Funding & Grants and Research & Development working groups have considered all applications and provided feedback to all the projects. Out of 14 applications, 6 were approved by members of both working groups and unanimously confirmed by the Waves Association Board.
This is a list of successful applicants, including feedback provided by the association and approved grant sizes:
SIGN ART
Grant size: 10,000 WAVES
Feedback:
- The team already built the signature-chain.com application on top of the Waves protocol and proved their skills.
- The team was rewarded with a grant by Waves Labs before, and they delivered all the milestones.
- All team members are well-known in the community and have a great reputation.
- The digital arts industry is booming and the timing looks perfect.
- Building a lead generation and conversion funnel will be the next required step from the marketing lead.
Gravity
Grant size: 100,000 WAVES
Feedback:
- One of the most promising projects in the Waves ecosystem.
- Venlab already built a number of projects (DAO, Neutrino etc.) and proved their tech skills and expertise.
- Sometimes, it looks like the Waves “core” team is developing Gravity, as well, and it should be stressed that Venlab is an independent team.
WavesFX
Grant size: 7,000 WAVES
Feedback:
- The WavesFX wallet supports minor protocol features that are not available in the Waves Exchange wallet.
- This is the only open-source wallet in the ecosystem at the moment.
- It is cross-platform and runs everywhere where Java runs, which makes the wallet more accessible for some user categories.
- Ledger support will make WavesFX the most secure Waves wallet available.
Certificado
Grant size: 5,000 WAVES
Feedback:
- The issuing and validation of education certificates is a valid use case, and the project already has customers.
- The application includes a detailed expense breakdown, milestones and KPIs.
- Some team members are well-known in the community and have proved their tech expertise.
- The project already generates traction and even some revenue.
- EdTech is currently one of the hottest topics (due to the COVID pandemic), and the timing could be perfect.
Muna Wallet
Grant size: 20,000 WAVES
Feedback:
- The team already built some applications on top of the Waves protocol and proved their skills.
- The team’s leader is well-known in the community and has a great reputation.
- The African market is one of the most promising for FinTech, and Muna Wallet can solve many African users’ problems related to financial services.
Wavescap.com
Grant size: an equivalent of $72,000 in WAVES
Feedback:
- Wavescap.com has long been operating in the Waves ecosystem and has a good user base.
- The Wavescap team are active community members, accommodating developers’ suggestions and actively rolling out new functionalities.
- Wavescap offers a user-friendly API for app development based on the Waves protocol.
- In the longer run, we expect Wavescap to substantially participate in testing, development and enrichment of the Gravity protocol.
All the successful projects have submitted detailed product development plans, main milestones and KPIs, according to which grant tranches will be released.
