In the last couple of years the milk industry had to record a drastic decrease of dairy demand in the US. The consumption of plant-based alternatives instead was on constant rise. A recent article from the Wall Street Journal reveals that dairy companies currently even have an oversupply of organic milk because more and more consumers are opting for non-dairy alternatives.

1 in 5 Americans say they are consuming less dairy for health reasons.

How does society think today?

We were wondering how the trend is currently evolving in the United States specifically and did some research on this matter by asking our community whether they prefer consuming 🌱 plant-based alternatives or 🥛 normal dairy?

The result was stunning.

Overall, there were more than 2.500 people from all over the world participating in this survey. The results vary in demographics.
While in 🇮🇳 India more people preferred the plant-based alternative,
🇵🇱Poland for instance still shows a preference for dairy products.
But wait ..what about the United States? 🇺🇸

Research Insights 03/09/2018

Milk and dairy products are widely recognised as important sources of nutrients typically in the US and the country itself counts as one of the leading dairy producing countries in the world.

Our research with 821 US inhabitants presents that 45% of the American respondents would prefer consuming plant-based alternatives over dairy.
It’s interesting to see that the relation of all male opinions was almost 1:1 whereas 56% of all female participants obviously prefer dairy.
Most of all were aged under 20 which shows that especially younger ages are interested in milk alternatives. 🥛

While 2018 has only just begun, it is carrying on 2017 which saw increases across the board in plant based milk acceptance, sales and accessibility. Perhaps sooner rather than later, Americans will be more keen to get their milk from nuts than from cows. 🌱
