… but I’m going to call it: Voice recognition software industry will plateau in 2019. Whoa, whoa. Yes, this is a speculation. But please do take a minute to step back with me and observe what is necessary for voice recognition’s projected value in 2023.

First of all, kudos to existing voice recognition software and interactive devices for blowing consumerism out of the water by evolving the way humans consume technology to seek the information they need on a daily basis. Now it’s time to look at the core problem with the current technology behind voice recognition.

The “uncanny valley”

Let me introduce you to an interesting concept: uncanny valley. Simply put, it is the phenomenon where objects’ ability to interact with humans and elicit emotional responses is still… off. It is that cold, weird, instinctual feeling you get when you hear machines speak or respond to your voice.

Right now, voice recognition is approaching an uncanny valley. Herein lies the problem… what is the “next thing” for voice recognition? Yes, voice…
