Hot (almost) new shit I found this week

Each week we share with you some of our favourite tracks, either new releases or something we’ve never heard before. It’s Ali’s turn:

It’s hard to choose just one track from Kaytranada’s excellent new album 99.9%, was it gonna be GOT IT GOOD, the much anticipated collaboration with Craig David or the lush TOGETHER featuring Alunageorge. It was ONE TOO MANY with Phonte however which got my shoulders shaking, earning itself a place on this list.

Full disclosure I stole this one off of Josh, but he’s on holiday this week so won’t notice. What else can be said about Alicia Keys, girl just keeps throwing out the hits. I’ve often heard her ability keep developing her sound and pumping out hits compared to Prince, and in his absence may she continue to do so.

Ok so this isn’t really really new — but its new to me. Saying that though this sounds and looks it could have come straight out of the late 70s/80s — you can hear more than a hint of the human league. There’s nothing much else to say except it’s bonkers and I love it.

I am a huge fan of songs featuring unrequited love and telephones, there is something hopelessly romantic about cross lines, unanswered calls and lost phone numbers getting in the way of love. In this vein Operator joins luminaries such as Telephone Line — ELO, Private Number — Judy Clay and William Bell, Just Seven Numbers — Four Tops, Hanging on the Telephone — Blondie on my list of favourite telephone songs.

That’s it, if you like what you hear sign up to Wax & Stamp and get two new records delivered to your door every month.
