Hot new (and some old) shit I found this week

This week, Ali takes you through some new releases which have floated her boat.

Film composer Frans Bak is responsible for giving shows like The Killing, Lilyhammer and Dr Foster their distinctive Nordic sound and has released an album of his work this week. String-infused Giant Leap encapsulates that cold dark feel unique to this style of programming.

Also released this week was Air‘s retrospective look back on the last 20 years, called uh — Twentyears. Three discs including best of, rarities and remixes, including this sublime remix of Remember by the renowned composer David Whitaker. I’ve never heard it before and I am so glad it’s been included on this release because it’s perfect.

Guitar bands are not my usual cup of tea, when I do like them I like them with lots of bluesy guitar, soulful vocals and beards. The new album from Icelandic quartet Kaleo fits perfectly. And this track No Good has had my foot tapping all week.

No list of mine would be complete without a female solo singer/songwriter (extra marks if they’re from London), and this summer heat-filled number from Jones does the job. With soulful, soothing lyrics, very fitting for such a turbulent week, Melt is the perfect end to this post.
