Hot new shit I found last week

This week, Luke shares the new tracks he can’t get out of his speakers: from Australian hip-hop to spiky indie-punk to heavy electro-rock.

I only heard Mosé + the FMLY for the first time a few weeks ago, which is surprising considering they seem to have been blowing up the Australian hip-hop scene for a while. To me, it’s a bit like if Kendrick grew up in inner-city Melbourne and spent more time on the beach. Big bass, classic samples and a lazy but ridiculously verbose flow.

If you’re a fan of 90s-tinged spiky indie-pop/punk, the kind with a penchant for blonde hair-dye, beat up converse shoes, ‘twee as fuck’ buttons and daisy chains as hair accessories, The Metatrons should be your cup of milky tea. This one is less spiky than the rest of the new album, but it’s the kind of track that makes me want to lie in the grass and stare at the sky for hours.

DOROTHY sound like some kind of bastard love child between Sleigh Bells and Kasabian. Heavy, bluesy bass and soul drenched vocals of the latter, and the overdriven guitars and stadium dirty electro of the former. It feels a little too “\m/ rock” for my usual taste, but jesus this hooks you in.

How I only just discovered Jerry Folk, I’m not sure. He reminds me a bit of a funky little brother of RAC, with the same summery beats and lovely synth samples, but way more soul. This is the kind of summer tune to kick back to with a cold beer in hand.
