New Hot Shit I Found This Week

Let’s start with a bit of French Touch from the electro wunderkinds Justice. Dropping last Friday, their latest is very much in keeping with classic Justice. That is, heavy, funky basslines, a bit of cosmic synth in the background, and the kind of beat that you can’t help but dance to.

It was released a month ago, but I just came across this amazing collab between bedroom multi-instrumentalist Tom Misch and London rapper Loyle Carner. It’s blissed out drums and synth work beautifully with Loyle’s effortless flow. In fact, everything that Loyle has been touching recently has been fucking amazing, so I can’t wait for the album.

Another chilled number, but this one from Ontario four-piece BADBADNOTGOOD with some vocal duties from Future Island’s Sam Herring. A beautiful piece of soul-jazz.

Next up a bit more soul, with London singer Poppy Ajudha. There are going to be clear comparisons to Ms Winehouse with her amazingly soulful voice, but there’s definitely something quite classic about her tunes. I can imagine this going on while kicking back in the sun, G&T in hand and sunnies on.

Finally a bit of electro-tinged indie-pop from Eigg based Pictish Trail. This one man band has the widest breadth of styles I’ve seen, and his new lovely synth-heavy track is a new notch to the belt. A bit Hot Chip meets Belle and Sebastian, and all good.
