Adele is a phenomenal artist, with her deep voice she can convey so much sadness, sorrow, and melancholy. And she is so good at singing about sad situations and sorrow over life decisions that most of the time I listen to her songs I get sad. And because I don’t particularly like to feel sad I rarely listen to Adele. But I do sometimes listen to other people’s renditions of Adele’s work, AKA, cover songs! So here is a list of some wonderful covers!

Dan Wilson ft. Kronos Quartet — Someone Like You

Is it a cover when one of the writers of the song sings it? Let’s suppose it is and listen to this beautiful rendition of “Someone Like You”. I’m a huge fan of Dan Wilson, I love Semisonic and still listen to their songs today. “Closing Time” still makes me smile and I love the new songs too. I think his version of “Someone Like You” is a little less sad, he sings and I believe he’ll pull through, and he’ll recover from whatever happened.

Linkin Park — Rolling in The Deep

I remember when I heard the first Linkin Park album, it sounded loud, but the songs were also telling us about so much hurt, confusion, and pain.

I think “Rolling in the Deep” and Linkin Park are a great combination, this song is not just about a breakup, the end sounds fresh and raw, and she or he is still making revenge plans. Chester Bennington sings this song beautifully, it’s filled with emotion, anger, and sadness.

Craig Colton — Hiding My Heart Away

Have you seen Craig Colton’s audition for The X Factor? He’s so funny and likeable. And then he starts singing. And he evokes so much pain and anxiety. The song doesn’t make it clear that there was a breakup, it just says that the person had to leave, it could be they had an emergency, a job offer, they are on a break, they are long distance, I don’t really know. But it sounds like the person singing is anticipating a breakup and loneliness.

Also, fun fact, “Hiding My Heart Away” is a cover by Adele. The song was originally recorded by Brandie Carlile.

Allie Sherlock and Ella Henderson — Rolling in The Deep

Oh well, it’s “Rolling in The Deep” again! What can I do? It’s a great song, and I am a prone to revenge-thoughts kind of person. But I also adore Ella Henderson. Have you heard Ella Henderson singing? She has a unique voice, and when she sings it she looks like she is lost in the song, it’s wonderful to watch.

The YouTube channel’s owner is Allie Sherlock, she’s a singer with a powerful voice, a songwriter, and a guitarist based in Ireland. She went viral with her cover of Ed Sheran’s “Supermarket Flowers”; an amazing cover, especially considering she was 12 at the time. She conveys so much emotion. Definitely check her out!

Andy Black ft. Juliet Simms — When We Were Young

I like the video clip for this cover. I think the black-and-white aesthetic combined with the slow and impactful music makes it seem nostalgic. Also Andy Black and Juliet Simms make such a pretty couple, and in this cover, they complement each other.

Bonus Round: Twisted Translations (Malinda Kathleen Reese) — Hello

Well, I love Malinda Kathleen Reese’s YouTube channel, it brings me great joy. I hope you enjoyed her song as well.
