Many, if not every, music fan see their formative years fondly. I, however, view it with disdain.

I loved hearing Top 40 radio as a kid and transitioned to screamo/metalcore as a teenager. The bands and artists I liked (Black Veil Brides, Frankie J, or Omarion) weren’t the best. I moved on to heavier and experimental artists as an adult, but there were gems in the bands I enjoyed growing up.

It’s an eclectic list of R&B, pop, rock, and metal I couldn’t stop hearing.

Let’s revisit them.

10. Obsession (No Es Amor) — Frankie J. featuring Baby Bash

As a kid, I tuned to MTV’s Spanish channel, MTV Tres. I found this gem there. It was the first song I was mesmerized with. I recorded it on my DVR and watched it whenever I came home from school.

The plucking guitar and Frankie J.’s melodies brighten my day.

9. Used to Love U — John…
