5 events to attend in Chattanooga
Black History Month is full of art events, social activities and learning experiences. Today, we rounded up 5 Black History Month events that are happening here in Chattanooga.
Black Faces, Voices, and Spaces (Thursday, February 7th, 6:30pm)
An art exhibit that works with an introspective look of maneuvering through life in America as a black person. The love, joy, pain, struggle, and triumph of those journeys through art. Exhibit curated by C-Grimey
Exhibit goes through March 4.
The End of AIDS? (Thursday, February 7th, 6pm)
February 7th is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The Chattery and Cempa Community Care are teaming up for a screening of PBS News Hour’s “The End of AIDS?”. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion of local experts about the effect of HIV/AIDS in the Southern United States.
Free Lecture by August Wilson Scholar (Sunday, February 10, 4pm)
In conjunction with The Chattanooga Theatre Centre’s upcoming production of August Wilson’s FENCES, Pedro E. Alvarado, Education Director of the National August Wilson Society, will give a free community lecture titled “August Wilson and His American Century Cycle”.
Black Self-Portrait (Saturday, February 23, 3pm)
Black Self-Portrait is an event dedicated to making time for oneself- focusing on the 3 areas of meditation, reflection, & expression. Local professionals and artists will lead various peaceful activities in the AVA gallery while also incorporating Black History, enabling guests to relax, relate, and release.
2nd Annual God’s Trombones (Sunday, February 24, 3pm)
Join RISE (formally known as Jazzanooga) as they honor people making significant contributions to our community through their time, talents, and treasure. This event will feature poems from one of the most celebrated African American Literary Classics, ‘God’s Trombones’ written by James Weldon Johnson.
