Harnessing the Power of #givingtuesday with #chagives

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. Causeway, United Way of Greater Chattanooga, and The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga team up to harness the power of #GivingTuesday locally through #CHAgives.

Collectively, we raised nearly $220,000 for Chattanooga’s nonprofits in just 24 hours. The power behind CHA Gives rides entirely on collaboration and partnerships. This year, we had 40 restaurants agree to donate 10% of their proceeds to a local nonprofit. We also partnered with our friends at VaynerMedia who spent an afternoon sharing their genius with five lucky organizations, inspiring them to create killer campaigns. Since opening the VaynerMedia Chattanooga office in July 2015, one of the things that has impressed us the most is Chattanooga’s sense of community. It’s been amazing to see the people come together, roll up their sleeves and accomplish so many goals. It’s with that collaborative spirit in mind that we were excited to partner with Causeway for Giving Tuesday 2016. We joined forces with five local non-profit organizations — Chattanooga Zoo, The Bethlehem Center, Helen Ross McNabb Center, Chambliss Center for Children and UnifiED — and guided them through planning their #CHAGives campaigns and events.

Each organization teamed up with a few VaynerMedia team members from both strategy and creative departments to discuss goals and put together a plan of action for their #CHAGives campaigns. After getting to know our contacts, VaynerMedia hosted a collaborative workshop for all five organizations, where teams exchanged ideas for effective ways to engage their audiences and encourage giving. Through these sessions, we helped our partner organizations build upon their existing knowledge of social media tools and how to use them to manage successful campaigns and drive donations on Giving Tuesday. We also led them through brainstorming activities for creating fun social media content to keep audiences engaged throughout their campaigns and after Giving Tuesday has passed.

There’s more than one way to give back to cause-based organizations, and this year VaynerMedia was able to provide marketing expertise. Time is a precious asset, especially this time of year. We were happy to team up with these organizations and empower them to execute their best #CHAGives campaigns. We look forward to hearing more about how they’re utilizing social-digital media to drive results and are certainly excited to team up with them and Causeway for more projects and events in the future.
