Even the best writers still use writing exercises to strengthen their skills and increase their creativity.

There are many writing prompts and exercises that writers can do to improve their writing. The writing exercises help to learn about writing style, and tone of voice, discover ideas, practice writing in a specific tone, and learn how to become a better writer.

Here are 6 amazing writing exercises that would help improve your writing skills.

1. Start Free writing:

Start writing whatever comes to mind in your journal. Free writing allows the writer to follow thoughts and ideas. Start by setting a timer for 30 minutes and write anything you think. It doesn't have to be perfect. Whether you are a content writer or an academic writer, free writing will make your mind active and help you brainstorm ideas to defeat writer's block.

2. Pick a random sentence:

Pick a random sentence from a book you love and write a short story from it. Use it as the first sentence of your story. This story can go in any direction, and it's better to write it with other author's words. This exercise will help you discover new ideas and embrace your writing.

3. Read other author's work:

Notice the work of other authors and take notes. Observe their writing style and tone of voice for readability. Notice their word choice and point of view. Write about the writing techniques in their writing and apply them to your own.

4. Help other authors edit articles:

Good writing means you should be able to edit it as well. One way is to choose a random article, from a website, and proofread it. Notice all the writing mistakes and mark improper sentences, clichés, wordiness, passive voice, and inappropriate verbs. Practicing editing and helping other authors will improve the clarity of your writing.

5. Practice writing:

Choose a topic you want to write about and write an article on it relating to its subject. Divide it into easy pieces for writing and arrange it structurally. Do research and summarize the concepts step-by-step. It will improve your organizational and analytical skills. This research will also help gather ideas for new articles.

6. Watch people:

Watch people and observe them. Go to a park or a shopping mall and just watch them. Build a habit of observing people and watching where your thoughts lead you, in a normal situation. Write your observations in a journal. This exercise will spark your creativity. Watching and listening to people will make your writing natural.
