Summarizing the pursuits-in-progress of the brightest and best.

Hackers are always working on something new. WAYWO — What are you working on?

Click a title to view the original WAYWO post for each project.

1. Renaissance: Musically-controlled computing

I’ve been known to talk to, and even sing to, my computer. Sadly, it doesn’t result in much. Until now.

This week, Stefan Aleksić (one of the brilliant minds behind Cosmos browser) brought us Renaissance, the program that lets your computer be moved by the music. In the sample video [which, regrettably, cannot be embedded, but is linked in the title] shows Stefan controlling his mouse by playing notes on his violin.

Seems cool? It gets better. The project is open-sourced on github and anyone can contribute! According to the post, there could also be an Android app in the works that would allow the phone’s microphone to control a connected computer.

2. HackOne: Apply to ALL the hackathons

The average hacker fills out maybe a dozen hackathon applications each semester, all asking for the typical info — name, email, school, dietary restrictions, gender, github, resume — you know the deal.

Bilawal Hameed is here to save you from repetition with HackOne.

The Chrome extension, which is already up and running, lets hackers create a single locally stored JSON profile that is easily accessible through the Chrome toolbar. If you’re an organizer, the HackOne site shows how to integrate HackOne data into your application with as little as 1 line of code.

Here’s hoping that hackathons start the easy integration ASAP.

3. A personal site redesign that left us speechless

Usually, hackers are busy working on products and startups. Personal sites are sometimes overlooked or thrown together hastily. Not so for Timotius Sitorius, who artfully ties together complex CSS animations, bold colours, and a clean interface.

Check out his website and be amazed with us.

Timotius released some of the code for his site, notably that for the box animation. Looking to redesign your site? Get some inspiration from Tim and put in the extra effort to stand out.

4. The next step in texting?

Text is going out of style. Between Facebook Messenger and Snapchat, millennials are opting more and more for instantaneous communication. Jaehyun Jeon wants to spark a revolution in texting.

We created our app to solve this problem by imitating spoken conversations, and creating a more modern style of text based communication.

What does modern texting look like?

The team is currently seeking web and mobile (iOS and Android) developers and mentors, if you’re interested in getting involved.
