25,000,000 shared miles across USA

Waze is all about improving the driving experience for everyone by helping people build local communities. We launched Waze Carpool across the U.S. on October 10 last year to make it easier for people to share rides, save time, split the cost of commuting, and reduce traffic and carbon emissions.

Waze Carpoolers in the U.S. have shared over 25 million miles together. That’s like cruising across the country 10,000 times. Here’s how riders and drivers all over are leading the way to a better commute for all.

15,000,000 shared miles in the Bay Area

In the Bay Area, Waze Carpoolers traveled 15 million miles over the past year. That’s like traveling between Oakland and San Francisco about 1.2 million times, for less than the cost of a loaf of Boudin sourdough per ride.

3,700,000 miles in Southern California

In Southern California, Waze Carpoolers traveled 3.7 million miles since Oct 2018. That’s like traveling between Los Angeles and Santa Monica about 236,000 times, for less than the cost of a green juice per ride.

Saving time — and a few bucks

Waze Carpoolers all across the U.S. are embracing life in the express lane, and picking up new passengers isn’t slowing anyone down. On average, carpool drivers deviate little more than three minutes from their normal route to pick up a rider.

With Waze Carpool, my two-hour commute is just one now. –Mary, Carpool rider
I commute to San Jose every day, which is about 160 miles round trip. It just made sense to offer people rides -Ty, Carpooler

Saving the planet

Since October 2018 Waze Carpoolers in the U.S. reduced CO2 emissions by 20 million pounds. That’s like planting close to 150,000 trees in a year — around 8X the number of trees in New York’s Central Park!

I totally enjoy the social time with other people who want to go out of their way to take cars off the road. -Rich, Carpooler

Saving each other

Carpooling connects people from all walks of life in surprising ways. It offers welcome social interaction and a chance to share new experiences together on the road. Goodbye long, lonely commute. Hello faster, economical, meaningful adventure.

48% of carpoolers are open to conversations in the car
46% of carpools welcome pets to the commute.
On the surface, we’re all pretty different…but we never run out of things to say to each other. -Ruth, Carpool driver

Thanks for an amazing first year riding together and making all our commutes better. Spread the word to others to join the movement.
