Traffic Data at your Fingertips
Waze for Cities Data hosted on Google Cloud
As traffic gets worse in cities, and Americans lose about 8.8 billion hours a year to congestion (yikes!), Waze for Cities has taken another step forward in helping our partners manage traffic today, and plan for the future.
Earlier this year, Waze announced Waze for Cities Data would be made available on the Google Cloud Platform for ready analysis. Yep, the same Google Cloud that stores your documents and keeps your site running is now housing Waze’s transportation data, making it easier for cities to access and analyze.
We’re excited to share that starting today, Waze for Cities Data is available to Waze’s data-sharing partners around the world.
What does Waze for Cities Data mean for partners?
- Free access to valuable traffic data: Waze for Cities data-sharing partners can access Waze’s data in Google Cloud for free and Google Cloud will host data over time, giving partners the ability to see trends over time or before and after projects.
- Numbers you can learn from: Data means nothing if you can’t interpret it. Partners will get access to BigQuery and Data Studio, tools designed to help you understand and interpret your data even without technical knowledge. Waze will provide the most commonly used data dashboards for free. Partners can choose to go further with their own paid accounts.
- Centralized data tools: No need for our partners to build their own tools or have different systems for different data sources. Google Cloud makes it easy to view Waze for Cities data and layer in other transportation data sources to see the full picture in one place.
This new program is just another way Waze is providing technology that helps people help each other. Now, our city partners can securely and privately store, analyze, interpret, and organize their data, improving traffic—and creating safer streets—for years to come.
As with all Google Cloud partners and customers, Waze for Cities Data partners will remain in complete control of their data. If you are a public agency you can sign up and integrate your data by clicking “Apply Now” on the Waze for Cities homepage. Once approved, you’ll get instructions on how to access the integration.
