Yes, I am obsessed with podcasts. With commute times in our cities growing year on year, what better way to spend the morning or evening metro-boulot transit than listening to the plethora of audio soundwaves on your device. While there is a podcast for almost any subject or taste, here’s a selection of some of our favourite series at We Design Services that inspire us.

99 percent invisible

A short, pithy show that dives into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shapes our world. Reminding us all, that design is about how things work and how our instinctive understanding of the world has been shaped by past design decisions. http://99percentinvisible.org/

Four hour work week

A self-described experimenter, this is a long-form (often over an hour) show where Tim interviews notable top performers in their field to understand their habits and behaviours that can inspire anyone. http://fourhourworkweek.com/podcast/

Radiolab

A diverse show about ideas. While topics change seemingly in unrelated fashion, the common denominator is a sense of curiosity, and the delightful story-telling of old and new discoveries in science, philosophy, and human experience. http://www.radiolab.org/series/podcasts/

Theory of Everything

Benjamin is setting out personally to connect the dots. Given the breadth of the aptly named series, there really is no topic which cannot be unpacked. From online advertising tech to the future of self-driving cars, Benjamin fosters a sense of curiosity by addressing one question but generating many more. http://toe.prx.org/

The Memory Palace

Another fantastic series in the Radiotopia community, this one looks to the past in a way that vividly brings to life stuff we might not know or remember. Guaranteed to make you feel smarter *. http://thememorypalace.us/

  • or at least an interesting dinner party guest.

The History of Rome

A podcast retracing, get ready for it, the history of Rome. Great narration and little trivia will keep you hooked for the 180 something episodes. http://bit.ly/histofrome

Linear Digression

A podcast that take you into the fantastic world of data science (a thing I love even though I hated it when it was called statistics back when I was a student). Each episode, usually about 20 minutes long, explores on particular notion in statistics and/or machine learning. It is easy to understand even for newbies. http://lineardigressions.com/

Data Stories

Similar to linear digression but longer and in more depth. Can be a bit more wonkish. http://datastori.es/

Le masque et la plume

A 50 years old french radio show where critics talk about the latest movie, play and book releases. It is full of sarcasm, bad faith, elitism and humor. Everything we love to hate about the French. http://bit.ly/masqueplum

Ted Radio Hour

Delivers what it promises. An hour-ish episode on ideas, inventions and ways of thinking from ted speakers. http://bit.ly/tedradhour
