A strong coffee first thing in the morning followed by a workout session or a half an hour run is a great way to kick-start the day, accelerating fat-burning and increasing weight-loss. That’s what a research study I read said, and so I decided to try it myself.

I started the morning by drinking a strong coffee — which contains about 3 mg/kg of caffeine — half an hour before aerobic exercise with the promise that it would significantly increase the rate of fat-burning, according to an interesting study by the Department of Physiology of the University of Granada (UGR).

According to the study, the researchers have also found that if the exercise is performed in the afternoon, the effects of the caffeine are more marked than in the morning. Who would have known?! The only problem is that I prefer to exercise in the morning.

So, through the study, the researchers aimed to determine whether caffeine does increase oxidation — known as burning of fat — during exercise. The study was published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports and
