IYD Brasil
“IYD Brasil” is a movement that seeks to engage and support youth in each state of Brazil. Its goal is to organize activities and events based on the UN’s International Youth Day theme for each year. The event happens every year on August 12th.
The movement was created envisioning the youth protagonism in their localities. It involves all diversities and areas where we as youth should have a voice to help in our society. Discussions during the event range from policy making to academic topics.
All members of the “IYD Brasil” team are volunteers that apply to the opportunity, are selected based on specific criteria and places into smaller teams. To summarize, we have the national team that are responsible for the partnerships, finance area, legal procedures and the program for the ambassadors and “fazedores” (“doers”). “IYD Brasil” ambassadors are the members who reach out to organizations, institutions, public departments, students, teachers, and others, to accomplish the real activities in their cities. Those people that do the activities are called “fazedores” which can be translated as “doers”.
The ambassadors program is a way to include the 26 states and 1 federal district of Brazil by selecting young leaders from each state to represent the movement in their regions giving them a whole formation about agenda 2030, social movements, SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), soft skills and so on. Their role is to support the doers to organize and make the events during the event seasons.
In 2021, with the theme “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, the events happened from August 12th to August 26th and we achieved more than 1.300 events and +120 thousand young people in the whole country, which makes us the biggest movement during the International Youth Day in the world. From this movement, a lot of projects are included, such as podcasts, debate groups, programs and so on.
To take a general look at our impact this year, some of the activities were seminars, debates, radio program, hip hop battle, joint effort to clean a river, physical activities, social actions and a lot more all about the theme and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
