The barriers to improving education outcomes

I am worried by the constant lack of a student centred approach to formal education by governments, and institutions

A very valid question, sent to me via DM from a VC in the US (doing some lite DD)

A huge challenge and opportunity

I am worried we have rigged our governments and institutions so they are not measured, motivated or even capable of a student centered approach when shaping policies and budgets. The learners new context and user needs are not in focus, and therefor always loose out.

This view is informed by years of being exposed to & taking part in political discourse around education globally (and particular in U.K., US & Scandinavia). Having the insights from building one of the worlds largest learning platforms and being fortunate enough to be exposed to thousands upon thousands of real everyday classrooms.

We added in elements that provide the context to allow learners with different learning styles, difficulties and preferences to take part in the instructional activity on equal terms.

We see this a huge challenge and opportunity, so I am therefore more committed than ever to continue to invest my time, resources and energy into initiatives that address education with a learner centric approach. I look forward to contitue this journey with my co-founder and long time busienss partner Jamie Brooker. First step is to share as much of our insights as possible thorough blogs, talks and videos.

If you’ve got this far… thank you for reading! I’m only just starting out on Medium. Over the coming months I’ll be exploring the themes in this article, sharing both practical tips and stratigic evalutaions we took when growing Kahoot! and hopefully from the growing numbers of new ventures we have.

I would hugely appreciate some claps 👏 and shares 🙌 so that others can find it!
