Looking at the start of the new year we like to look back at what this year has brought us. Lists of great movies and finest albums appear everywhere, just like our favourite apps and games. But how about the preferred business tools we use everyday? Software that helps us to work better, as organisation — or human? The wonderful applications that improve the use of your smartphone or tablet? Because we at YipYip are great fans of simpel and efficient online platforms that enhance our daily routine, we count down to the new year with some fruity tips for business tools. One diamond every day. The motto: ‘discovering tools that make your business or mobile life more fun’. Go explore them in the new year!

Better Business Countdown #4: Dolphin

Most people don’t get much further than the often used web browsers Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Which is fine. But with mobile devices getting more important everyday (both smartphones and tablets), the need for a perfect mobile browser comes looking around the corner. Because what functionality do we crave when using a browser on our shiny iPad or fancy Android ‘phablet’? Did we overlook some useful options, which developers can offer us if they want?

Web browser Dolphin answers those questions in a very creative way. The browser is especially developed for mobile devices. And this leads to multiple nice features, for both iOS and Android users. Like: a great overview of your active web pages with tabs and voice recognition (the ‘Dolphin sonar’). For Android devices there even is Flash support. But my most favourite feature — and the reason why Dolphin is on this list at all — is the gesture driven navigation.

You can easily draw your own icon for any website you want to visit, and make it the standard shortcut.

No more fuss with bookmarks in folders; no shortcuts to web pages from the homescreen, besides other app icons; just simply open your browser, put your digital sign in place and get to your destination quickly. For Google you logically choose ‘G’, ‘H’ for Hotmail — in upper case or lower case, whatever you like — and never think about how to open your favourite page again. This is very handy for websites you often visit on your mobile device, but for which you don’t use a separate application. And there are many of those! This gesture driven navigation feels a bit futuristic, almost like there’s a personal connection between you and the device. The screen interprets your preferences in a heartbeat. Besides that, Dolphin is very user friendly (fast, clean) and designed to perfectly fit your needs. The future of browsing is now!

Children can also easily apply the gestures on the screen, whereas browsing through bookmarks and folders can be unclear sometimes — especially on smaller phones.

Even though this browser already exists a few years now and has won several prizes, we could definitively use more and more of such a bright pal when surfing our beloved mobile screens. Try Dolphin yourself, and see if he becomes your friend as well. Our much valued entry on number 4 of this years list!
