HERBALIFE: I knew it was a scam since the day they made me sign!

This is the translation of a well motivating article published on Medium by Federico Sanz

It’s been 4 years since that day when I decided to sign my license as an independent Herbalife associate.

I remember that when I heard the proposal everything seemed very strange to me, it smelled bad. I was almost sure it was a scam, I was sure that I would end up stealing.

But since there was not much I had to lose, I decided to start, just to see how it was that I was robbed. They told me I had to go to a girl’s house to get my “starter pack”. Thinking that they would steal from me, I remember that I left my watch and my wallet at home and went to discard the whole thing.

Nobody stole me that day.

They just gave me my kit for which I paid about $ 1500 (pesos) and I left. I brought a product that cost about a thousand pesos and a little bag with the Herbalife logo that I estimate would cost more than $ 500. I did not think it was a bad deal because with what they gave me, I had already recovered the investment.

I was still quite convinced they would steal me later, that they were making me come in to steal me later with bigger silver.

I was pretty sure the shake they had given me was a powder that would not do anything to me. Flour mixed with something I thought it was.

But I decided to try it to see.

After three days I began to notice an energy that I did not feel as a child. They were eager to do things mixed with enthusiasm. I read the label of what the “powder” brought and I thought it was reasonable, vitamins, minerals, all made with herbs and natural ingredients dissected, pulverized and put in a jar. Something like if you put a dry tomato in the processor and it was made dust.

I liked that no agrotoxins or transgenic seeds were used to make it.

Excited about the result, I started talking with my friends and family about what I was taking. Many did not believe anything and made fun of me, they told me it was a scam and that the products were a trade, that he was naive.

But some trusted me, and decided to try them.

Without knowing anything about sales, (the only thing I had sold in my life was a bicycle through a free market) I managed to generate my first customers. The first month I had $ 6,000 of profit (Uruguayan pesos), the second $ 8,000 and the third $ 10,000. It did not seem like a lot of money since it was much less than what I earned as an engineer, but I liked the fact that I had recovered the investment, and more important than the silver, it left me very happy that the people who had bought me the products told me. I could not believe the energy I was feeling, they thanked me for selling the products. The feeling of someone thanking you for what you sold him, telling you about the changes he had, and asking again for more left me ecstatic.

Even though it was pretty obvious that the products worked and I was already making money, I still had my doubts.

I kept waiting to be robbed. To have me put money and not get it back or something like that.

The reality is that the days, weeks, months, and now, the years have passed, and I’m still waiting for them to steal me.

Once inside and seeing how the company works, it is quite clear that there are not many ways to cheat you.

For the only thing you have to put money is to buy products, which you then sell. And if for some reason you do not want to sell them, you eat them. And if you do not want to eat them anyway, you return them and they give you back the money, even of those products that you have taken if you present the empty jar and you say that you did not like it.

In these three years I have seen many people attacking the company. Accusing them of fraud or that the products do not work. All the news I have read are: “They accuse Herbalife of …”, but none says “Proven Herbalife …”. All the news are “suspicions”, accusations but nothing that ends up proving.

I realized that Herbalife, like all herbal companies, is a company that steals a lot of market from pharmaceutical companies, from “Big Pharma”, because it makes people sick less and consumes less insulin and pills for pressure. It’s a company that gives ordinary people the opportunity to become financially free, and that’s something that the main stream media like the newspaper El País in Uruguay, the observer, CNN, and all those chains It seems not to like them very much.

When someone becomes free, he stops being afraid, and stops consuming the press that everyone consumes, because he knows that the purpose of this type of media is to keep people in fear, to keep them enslaved by doing things they do not want to do.

The media are controlled by “Big Pharma” who want you sick, obese, without energy and hypnotized in front of a screen so you do not use your brain.

The sole purpose of the mass media is to make a mental programming en masse and when a company gives the opportunity to a person to become free, to have their own schedules and be their own boss, to be able to work from home while raising his children and become independent of the labor system that oppresses him, it is natural that the media want to put the stick in the wheel. The system does not want you free in your house thinking for yourself, the system wants you locked up for 8 hours in an office, bending your head.

When a dwarf like Herbalife, who started out of nowhere, with a twenty-year-old boy named Mark Hughes who had seen his mother die from taking excess pharmaceutical drugs, begins to grow more than is allowed, it is natural that pharmaceutical companies, Coca-Cola, Mc Donald’s, Monsanto and all that type of company that poisons society gets nervous and starts making legal accusations in disguise.

It’s been 4 years since I signed my license as a Herbalife distributor. Not only were they never stolen, but it turned out to be an incredible and very enriching experience.

I’ve been through a lot of companies, and none of them was treated as well as in Herbalife.

Many people talk and guess about how the multilevel business system works. Most people who go out to make accusations, do it without even having taken the trouble to read what the contract says and how the percentages are distributed.

To understand it, a minimum of mathematical comprehension is needed, and even a scholar can understand it. Apparently individuals and badly called journalists like Ignacio Alvarez and the team of Santo y seña lack that mathematical understanding so basic as to be able to understand it.

I still remember the day I left my job in Montes del Plata, the paper mill.

I felt very bad with myself, working on a project that was destroying the environment. I promised myself that I would never use my profession again to do something that hurts the environment or people.

The image that thirty years from now my children would come and tell me: “What did they do with the earth? What were you thinking, dad? It was recurrent in my head.

The only thing I can do now is to thank.

Thank for the amazing friends and people that I met inside the company.

Thank the nutrition that gave me back the body I had at 18 (the body scanner gives me 18 years of metabolic age and I’m 31).

Thank those who trusted me and were encouraged to take the products.

Thank those who believed in me and decided to join the business.

I would like to thank Mariela Fernandez, the person who, along with her parents Rodolfo and Lucia, presented me the business, they had patience, they advised me, they guided me and they taught me how to run a business like this. Because more than a business, they showed me a philosophy of life.

Mark Hughes, founder of Herbalife, for encouraging himself to bring the forgotten science of Chinese herbalism to the West and help so many people save their health.

They have already spent four years in Herbalife, and now that I think about it, it’s the only company I have lasted so long.

I have been taking all Herbalife products every day for four years, and my physical condition and energy have never been better and I have never felt so good.
