In #takeaction podcast, Bernard Kusi discusses his interest towards changing the perceptions generally held about women and what career they are fit for. When the COVID-pandemic hit the globe, it took its toll on many sectors. The most affected have been pink-collar sectors, those with women employees in the majority. This fact made Bernard wonder about the role of women in the working life in general. He now encourages men to see women as partners, not as a threat. Listen to the podcast to hear this thoughts about changing attitudes and empowering women:

Indeed, there is work to be done to change the harmful perceptions that limit girls and women in their careers. According to Fawcett Society, already by the age of six, girls avoid school subjects that require them to be “really, really smart”, which can lead them to take less STEM subjects compared to boys. Compared to girls, it is four times more likely that boys express interest in becoming an engineer. (Fawcett Society 2020, 31–32.)

Luckily, we have people like Bernard who want to encourage women to choose their own path. Bernard’s message to women is encouraging: “Ladies, see yourself as capable!”
