#takeaction podcast with Satu Nevalainen — a start-up mompreneur and We Encourage fundraiser for women empowerment
Satu Nevalainen is a start-up mompreneur and a founder of Everyone lives app, which connects mothers and midwives in an innovative and revolutionary way that expands the accessibility of health services and increases the odds of survival of mothers and newborns dramatically. Satu is also an ambassador for an African organization Hope of Family which is also our piloting partner organization for fundraising.
Satu is our piloting fundraiser for Hope of Family. The fundraising cause is created in collaboration with a start-up entrepreneur Jari Ala-Ruona, a founder of Aion Sigma. Aion Sigma’s mission is to bring digital and financial inclusion by smart loans and smartphones to African entrepreneurs.
The aim of the fundraising cause is to distribute mobile phones and radios for 100 Hope of Family’s target families, consisting of widows, single mothers, women entrepreneurs.

Fundraising cause for Hope of Family
Hope of Family (HoF) is a local non-profit organization supporting families that live in rural areas of Rwanda, a southern province. This organisation helps families to live better lives while being involved in their children’s education. The organisation targets low-income families selected in partnership with local administration. In the organisation’s Theory of Change,” Family hope” is translated into affordability of sustainable livelihoods at family level which comes along with giant steps family heads take in favor of their successful children’s education. In order to achieve this, the organisation works around four components that include children education performance support, family awareness and capacity development, family participation and family resilience actions. Satu and Jari are joining their forces for creating a fundraising cause that would enable the distribution of mobile phones and radios for 100 Hope of Family target the most vulnerable single mother families in Rwanda. Communication among community members is considered as the best channel to enhance interaction among people around the best practices that mainly improve their socio-economic standards in order to sustain a generational change. Families’ mobile phones and radios will contribute to the Hope of Family’s ongoing efforts to build capable families that understand the essence of information access for their brighter future. Families will use mobile phones to communicate with school teachers and administrators. Mobile phones enable the family to also start and run a business. We have also discussed a possibility to have a requirement for the family to keep their girl at school in order to have and use the mobile phone, to ensure the education of the girls of the family.
Through radios, families will have access to different shows related to education, agriculture, livestock, health, etc. For many children due to the coronavirus pandemic, the lessons are broadcasted through radio.
