Nothing says advertising like some rather odd sounding abbreviations and weird old-skool terms that wouldn’t go amiss on The Apprentice.

So to spare your blushes, we’ve collected some of the worst offenders and explained them for you.

OOH — Out Of Home (Billboards, Digital 6 sheets, Bus stops.)

DEP — Digital Ecalator Panels. LED digital screens, mostly seen by the side of escalators on the underground.

VOD — Video On Demand. Ads that play whilst watching 4OD, Itv Hub etc.

CTA — Call To Action. A line that will tell the consumer what you would like them to do. EG. If you have any more abreviations you want to know about, email us at emily.churches@greyeu.com.

CRM — Customer Relationship Managment. Using technology and data to analyse and manage great relationships between customers and brands.

NPD — New Product Development. A new product a brand is bringing to market.

WIP — Work In Progress. Not your final or complete work.

EOP — End Of Play. By the end of the working day.

DOP — Director Of Photography. They are in charge of lighting and camera crews on film productions, and are responsible for the look and feel of images.

AD — Assistant Director. The role of an assistant director on a film includes tracking daily progress against the filming production schedule, arranging logistics, preparing daily call sheets, checking cast and crew, and maintaining order on the set. They also have to take care of the health and safety of the crew.

MPU — Digital banner size (300x250) Almost square shape. Can sometimes expand to bigger formats.

Leader Board — Digital banner size. Can vary in size.Horizontal Rectangle shape.

Sky Scrapper — Digital banner size. Can vary in height. Vertical rectangle shape.

DM — Direct Mail. The advertising you get through the post.

TOV — Tone of Voice. The way a brand communicates with its customers.

CSR — Corporate Social Responsibility. Is a corporation’s initiatives to assess and take responsibility for the company’s effects on environmental.

PPM — Pre Production Meeting. The meeting before shoot day. This is where you will discuss the final storyboards, casting, wardrobe and finer details of the production with the client,director and agency.

Call sheet — A piece of paper (or PDF) that will tell you where to be and when, who’s who in the production and how to contact them.
