5 Things That Will Piss You Off This Week

1. Hillary Clinton’s Book Tour

Excerpts from Hillary’s upcoming book are making the rounds in the media and it’s heartbreaking. This woman who worked her ass off to be successful despite decades of attacks, false stories, investigations and hearings is apologizing for letting the country down when it’s the voters who are to blame. The choice was clear in 2016, a competent, well-prepared, experienced woman or a lunatic with a history of discrimination, lying, bankruptcy and cheating the little guy. This country chose the lunatic. I disagree with the people who claim she ran a bad campaign. Mistakes were made but her mistakes were magnified to the 1000th degree. His mistakes were laughed off as an inexperienced politician despite the fact he had ran before. It just pisses me off that Hillary thinks she has to apologize when it’s the voters that let her down. And we will be paying for that mistake for a very long time.

2. Sam Clovis, Trump’s pick for Chief Scientist at USDA

Sam Clovis is not a scientist and yet Donald Trump wants to make him the Chief Scientist at the United States Department of Agriculture. Clovis doesn’t have a science background, hasn’t held any job where science was used, and after listening to him, I’m uncertain if he could even spell science. Clovis is a shock jock radio host and like most shock jocks he has said some amazingly offensive things. Here are just a couple of his greatest hits:

· Clovis called progressives “liars, race traders and race ‘traitors.’”

· Clovis compared the recovery efforts following the 2008 floods in Iowa with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita claiming Iowa was successful because Iowa’s culture “focused on family, community and the primacy of faith in life.”

· Clovis said President Obama hated American greatness and had an anti-American mentality.

Even if you put his offensive remarks aside (and there is no reason you should do that), he is just not qualified to be chief scientist because he’s not a SCIENTIST.

3. Sherriff Joe Arpaio will get a pardon

In his speech in Phoenix, Trump hinted that he will pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio after his recent conviction of criminal contempt. Trump is continuing his salute to his racist base first with his “many sides” comment after Charlottesville and now hinting (in Trump’s awkward way, it’s not a hint, it’s an admission) that he will pardon Sheriff Joe despite his history of civil rights violations. And in typical republican fashion of taking no personal responsibility for his actions, Sheriff Joe on Hannity said “”If they can go after me, they can go after anyone in this country.” Well, yes, hopefully they will go after other racist assholes using their positions to wreak havoc on the lives of minorities.

4. Another Government Shutdown Threat

I will never understand republicans’ support of Donald Trump. He’s proven to be as ineffectual at running the government as he is at running casinos. But Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell seem oblivious to all of the chaos. Now, that Mexico has empathically proclaimed that they will not be paying for any damn wall, Trump is threatening to shut down the government if congress doesn’t provide the funds to build a wall that we don’t need, that he said Mexico would pay for, that he claimed would be the biggest wall but now it’s just going to be a fence, to stop the flow of immigrants that has already slowed.

5. Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh

I normally have a hard time selecting only five things that piss me off since there are at least 50 things that piss me off during any given week. But I cannot let this week go by without applauding Baltimore Mayor Pugh for her quick, decisive removal of the confederate monuments in her city. Mayor Pugh removed these monuments in the middle of the night without fanfare and by doing so ensured there would be no protests. I applaud Mayor Pugh for having the coverage do to the right thing at the right time for the right reasons. And would like to take this time to remind all that #BlackGirlsRock.
