It was a beautiful, sunny Wednesday afternoon in Syracuse which meant that it would be an utter crime to not enjoy the sunshine with my best bud and a tall boy. During our lunch break, Erin and I headed outside equipped with our tall boys and Solo cups ready to take on tall boy #2 of the week.

Today’s beer hails all the way from Germany (even though we picked it up at our local Trader Joe’s), and I’m even proud to say that Erin was able to finish the whole tall boy on her own. It was a huge win for the whole WLTB community.***

Beer Name: Bitburger Premium Pils
City and State of Origin: Bitburg, Germany
Year Created: 1819
ABV: 4.8%
Cost: $1.50 for a 16oz tall boy

Natalie’s Review

Taste: I thought that this beer overall was rather enjoyable. I felt it was pretty crisp and had a little bit of a subtle sweet taste to it. Nothing overpowering, though.

How Do I Feel? Aside from this being the second time in a row I’ve opened a beer and it’s exploded all over my hand (I blame Erin and her backpack beer transporting), I feel good! This beer goes down easy and is pretty tasty overall.

When To Drink Bitburger Premium Pils: I think this is a solid lunch or early afternoon beer. A tall boy’s worth of Bitburger is definitely enough to put a little pep in your step and doesn’t leave you feeling super bloated or burp-y after consuming it, all while not being too heavy or overly malt-y or skunky.

Overall Rating: 8/10. Bitburger is one of the better beers I think Erin has picked for us. While there’s not much to it overall, sometimes I prefer that kind of beer over something that’s too overpowering. Overall, I think this beer could be described as ‘mellow,’ and that’s exactly how you’ll feel after consuming one.

Written in script above the beer name“Bitburger” is the phrase “Bitte en bit” which translates to “Please, a bit.” SO CUTE. Upon further research, Wikipedia says, “In the 1970s, a second slogan was introduced, ‘Abends Bit, morgens fit’ (“Bit in the evening, fit in the morning”) implying that the consumption wouldn’t lead to a hangover.”

Erin’s Review

Taste: This a lighter tasting beer, however the smells coming from this can are mildly skunk-ily fruity. The lighter carbonation is probably attributed to travel time in my backpack and a pour into an inconspicuous red cup.

How Do I Feel? Bitburgers make me very happy. The can is an ugly piece of work but I feel like a pretty butterfly drinking the nectar within.

When To Drink Bitburger Premium Pils: Bitburgers are one of my favorite tall boys. I learned about them during my first visits to Beer Belly Pub & Deli, a Westcott Nation staple in the Syracuse University area. Bitburgers are the cheapest tall boys on the menu, and their economic appeal definitely translates in liquid form. A Bitburgers is a beer you can enjoy for long periods of time over pleasant coversations and between bites of burgers.

Overall Rating: 9/10. If this was colder upon drinking, it would be a 10.

***Exciting news for all of you WLTB fans — we now have an Instagram account! It may have been a little overdue, but after having a WLTB drink sesh with our partners (believe me, it’ll be a review you will not want to miss), Erin and I have decided to dedicate an Instagram account to our beer tasting shenanigans. So go and give us a follow at We Like Tall Boys on Insta to keep up with all things Tall Boy related and start a conversation with your favorite beer blogging ladies.

Cheers,
Natalie & Erin
