We Like Tall Boys

It’s been a hot minute since Erin and I have reviewed some beers, and to make up for it, y’all are in for a real treat (and a lot of beer reviews in the very near future). And there is no better on-brand way to bring back WLTB than to chug some tall boys of frosty PBR.

The beer of all beers. The reason why We Like Tall Boys is even a thing. Here we are.

Last week Erin shot me a text:

“Yo, I have two cans of PBR in the fridge.”

At a whopping $8.99 for 12 cans, PBR is the La Croix of beer. Easy to drink and quick to identify, this beer is the go-to bevvy for iconic marathoners (people who have things to do but want a beer and to make a statement that they care about this hipster-ish brand).

Would we call PBR hipster? Hang on, let’s check our sources as to what ‘hipster’ actually means.

Interesting. Well, this may hold true for some people if they think the idea of PBR is greater than the liquid gold within it’s aluminum capsule. In our opinion, we’re fans of that flavor.

Beer Name: Pabst Blue Ribbon
City and State of Origin: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Year Created: 1844 (!!!)
ABV: 4.74%

Natalie’s Review:

Taste: The first sip right from the can was light, and had a super satisfying foam to beer ratio. There’s a really good balance between sweetness and that typical “beer taste,” so it’s easy to have one (or three) at a summer BBQ or family gathering.

How Do I Feel? PBR was one of the first beers I had when I was able to drink, and it’s always a solid choice because it’s easy to drink and doesn’t fill you up too much. And with a 4.7% ABV, it’s easy to throw back more than one over an hour or two.

When To Drink PBR: One word: anytime. At the time of this review, I was sipping on a PBR while eating pizza. I mean… come on. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Overall Rating: 8.75/10, based on taste, value, and availability

Erin’s Review:

Taste: I usually pop open one of these lil buddies as soon as I’m ready to wind down my day. A PBR can is the perfect study buddy as I delve into obligations and prepping for the following day. I can usually burn through 3 cans during a particularly productive night. This is possible due to the drinkability and mild flaves of PBR.

I used to make fun of PBR (and all beer, but slightly less than this brand) by saying it tasted like liquid bread. But I think I’ve grown into it. PBR’s got that sweet but watery barley with a tangy aftertaste.

How Do I Feel? I’m always happy when my fridge is stocked with PBR. It’s a multi-generational crowdpleaser, suitable for any occasion from baptisms to bored nights. Recently, PBR’s been my go to beer since I like to sip on something when I’m working or reading in the afternoon. It’s a simple addition to the simple pleasures in life. That’s what makes PBR loveable. It’s a humble withstanding statement beverage, without having to do much.

When To Drink PBR: It’s especially good with salty foods like sausage pizza (yes, I definitely had that whilst guzzling this buddy down). OMG I just reread Natalie’s post and she said “have it with pizza” too! WOW, FRIENDSHIP.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Here’s to PBR.

Cheers,
Natalie & Erin
