On Saturday, 18 March, United Nations headquarters in New York hosted the Smurfs “Blue Carpet” event and welcomed special guests, including the U.S. actors and voice artists in the movie “Smurfs: The Lost Village” Demi Lovato (Smurfette), Joe Manganiello (Hefty) and Mandy Patinkin (Papa Smurf).

Ahead of International Day of Happiness (20 March), #TeamSmurfs joined forces with the United Nations to help make the world a happier place by supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted by Member States to end poverty, reduce inequality and tackle climate change by 2030.

17 Sustainable Development Goals with Smurfs

The Smurfs are promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to show how happy the world can be if we all take action to achieve them. After all, they know that Smurf Village is only fun when everyone has enough to eat and has no worries — and no Gargamel.

The day kicked off with a blue carpet event in which “Smurfs: The Lost Village” stars honored three young activists, Karen Jerath, Sarina Divan and Noor Samee, with a symbolic key to the Smurfs Village in recognition of their work promoting the Sustainable Development Goals in their communities.

We were live on Facebook from the Blue Carpet, and asked Demi Lovato, Joe Manganiello, and Mandy Patinkin how they felt about partnering with the UN on the International Day of Happiness and why they thought the Sustainable Development Goals were important.
