What's happening in Yemen?

Almost two years of war have devastated Yemen, leaving almost 19 million people in need of humanitarian and protection assistance — including 10.3 million who are in acute need. The conflict is rapidly pushing the country towards social, economic and institutional collapse.

What’s the United Nations doing in Yemen?

It’s not easy to get details about what’s happening in Yemen because the security situation is so difficult, but here are some recent UN updates from Twitter:

What kind of aid is needed?

The most important way for individuals to help is to donate funds to ongoing aid operations targeting those most in need. Here are some examples:

The Yemen Humanitarian Fund managed by United Nations OCHA helps humanitarian NGOs and UN agencies in Yemen to assist the most vulnerable communities and people and to provide them with food, water, shelter and other basic support. Donate here: http://bit.ly/2jQhQ7G

The UN Refugee Agency is leading the effort to provide protection, shelter and non-food items. Donate here: https://donate.unhcr.org

The UN’s World Food Programme is working to provide urgent food assistance through direct food distributions and food vouchers to nearly seven million people across Yemen. WFP is also providing nutritional support to nursing and pregnant women, as well as children suffering from, or at risk of, moderate acute malnutrition. Donate here: http://bit.ly/2lCuM1Q

In the last two years alone, @UNICEF has supported the treatment of 460,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition across Yemen. It is also providing vitamin supplements and vaccines, in addition to distributing medicines and medical equipment, nutritional supplies, and assistance for injured children.
