This week, the team managed to steal some rest after a month-long work in Jan for the upgrades of the App & Web for DayOne.

Our Team’s Celebration

In lieu of the Lunar New Year, the team had a mini get together session on Monday Morning. An interesting fact that we learnt from the session is that in Vietnam, the Lunar New Year Celebration is week-long, while some even celebrate it for two weeks, the same as China. Wow!

Vietnam Lunar New Year also known as Tết

Just so you know, in Singapore, Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year is often celebrated for 3 days, with the first day being a half working day where people have their reunion dinner. And the next 2 days being public holidays, where we can go house visiting. Well.. I mean we still do celebrate even after the 2 days of holidays, just that our official public holiday is 2 days!

Hey! We are not here to compare who’s better okay. We just wanted to enlighten you guys on the cultural difference between the different nations!

Anyway, so on behalf of the DayOne team! We wish everyone a happy lunar new year and a good year ahead.

Of course, what’s Lunar New Year without Chinese wishes right?

So here it goes: 祝大家心想事成大吉大利虎虎生威

(Translation: May everyone achieve their dreams, have great profits and have the power and prestige of a tiger!)

Reunion Dinner

Reunion dinner is also known as 团圆 (Tuan Yuan) (or weilu) meaning “gathering around the family hearth”. This event is of cultural significance as it is a means to ensure the solidarity of the family and its cohesiveness. Family members are expected to return to the family home for reunion dinner.

Here’s a photo of my reunion dinner that nobody asked for:

Poon choi / pén cài / 盆菜 (A Cantonese dish: with many layers of different ingredients)

They say that the Pandemic can sometimes be a blessing in disguise. Ever since the Pandemic, most families are encouraged to work from home and stay home to minimize the spread of the virus. Fortunately for everyone, staying home meant that families now get to spend more time with each other! It also meant more opportunities for “reunion meals for everybody”.

A Joy in another Joy

Coincidentally yesterday, 2nd Feb, was the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year. It is also my Birthday.

So here’s a shameless shoutout to myself: Happy 18th Birthday to myself ! May all my wishes come true this 2022.

My Birthday Cake

Stay tune for more updates!
The DayOne team will come back better and stronger (after their break) .

Till then,

Ciao~
Bernard
