10 Questions in 5 Minutes for Claudia

Time to spend a little time with Claudia Bertone. She’s one of our User Experience (UX) Designers here at Humblebee. Claudia is a well travelled native of Italy, and she arrived at Humblebee via one of our first HIVE programs. (HIVE is our twice-yearly student program by the way, check it out!).

Anyhoo, let’s meet Claudia…

  1. Hello Claudia. How the devil are you?
    Molto bene, grazie 🇮🇹
  2. What do you do at Humblebee?
    I’m a UX Designer.
  3. Can you tell us exactly what a UX designer at Humblebee does?
What a UX designer does at Humblebee is quite broad. We never follow the same design process because we tailor it to the needs and goals of the project we are involved in. Overall, we work with qualitative and quantitative research, design sprints, user journeys, prototyping, user testing and much more. Personally, what I enjoy the most is to design and prototype solutions based on user insights.
  4. How come you ended up working with UX?
While studying for a MSc in Media Engineering in Turin (Italy) I took a course in Human-Computer Interaction. At that moment I started questioning what I wanted to work with and I decided to invest a bit more time into shifting my future career to Interaction Design. That was also the moment I decided to move to Sweden to do so, and I’m so happy I did that.
  5. Tell us about one project you’re particularly proud of…
I am very proud of all the work we have been doing together with TDM Systems. The company offers tool data management solutions and I’ve been involved in three different initiatives to ideate and create great new digital solutions for their products.
  6. Do you have one good tip for a tool you love, or perhaps a book or resource you highly recommend?
At this moment I really love “Notion”, a note-taking app that I use for both personal and work related activities. What I like the most is their ready to use templates that you can use to plan your vacation or your daily to-dos while maintaining a simple, clean and easy to use interface. When it comes to books I recently read “How to make sense of any mess” by Abby Covert and I would recommend it to anyone who is struggling handling their daily challenges in a structured way.
  7. What do you do to make sure you continue to grow as an expert within UX?
I read books, online articles and listen to podcasts. I also deep dive into one bigger topic related to the field of UX Design for a longer period of time to make sure I get a broad understanding of the topic and do enough research about it. However, while I believe that this more “theoretical” knowledge is essential and can help me build strong foundations, I always strive to learn as much as possible from projects and other designers that I work with on a daily basis.
  8. How will UX Design evolve in the future?
I believe that remote and team collaboration will play an even more important role in the future of a UX Designer and therefore we need to adapt our processes and routines to maximize the efficiency of our work. Other than that, I believe we will design more and more solutions for connected products and therefore seamless user experiences.
  9. Do you have any advice for people starting out their career and considering UX Design?
Be humble, ask questions, don’t be afraid to do something even if you are not sure how to do it and learn as much as possible from everyone around you.
  10. If you could give a company one piece of advice (from a UX design perspective)… perhaps a recurring error you have seen from your career… what would that be?
Doing research and continuously talking to your users is never a waste of time or money. User interviews, observations, testing sessions, experimentation and data analysis can only help you deliver great products which give true value to your customers.
