It’s been almost a month since we integrated our platform into xDAI and are enjoying low gas prices, while the rest of the Ethereum community suffers with insane gas price spikes. To promote more use of our platform, we teamed up with the xDAI team for a special campaign. For the selected 10 event organisers, we will provide the following double benefits (aka. “double Kickback”), thanks to the generous sponsorship from the xDAI team.

1. Free Kickback subscription

Our current pricing model is per event attendance or monthly subscription (similar to meetup.com). Even for community membership at $15/month , it may be a bit of barrier to entry to the platform without fully understanding the benefit.

The xDAI team will now take care of it so that you pay nothing to Kickback for the first 3 months.

2. Gas fee subsidies for attendees

When it comes to using Kickback on xDAI, the first hurdle for attendees is to acquire “xDAI” which is the native currency on the xDAI network to pay gas and use it to commit your attendance (and if some people don’t attend, we will share the commitment among those who came, which is the core gaming mechanism of Kickback).

In addition to experiencing through some UI challenges, users have to bear the gas cost of migrating their DAI into xDAI (When I transferred 50 DAI with 130 gwei, it cost $1.56) through the bridge. To compensate for the hassle, xDAI team will airdrop 5xDAI to participants who actually attended the event (I would request organisers to be strict about the attendees to prevent someone from just jumping in & out purely to qualify). This is sufficient to cover the gas cost unless the gas price is insanely high. You can also be smart by crossing a lump sum (eg: 25xDAI), attending 5 events, and receiving 5 xDAI while paying only a few dollars worth of gas fees. We are initially allocating a total of 500 xDAI for the gas subsidies (we will decide how we allocate these among meetups).

What’s the benefit for event organisers?

Apart from not paying fees to Kickback, what is the benefit of taking advantage of this campaign and using Kickback to manage your event?

First, you can take advantage of our “Contribution” feature which allows event participants to leave some xDAI they committed to attend their events as tips/donation/gift. You can read more details here.

Secondly, we propose you to try out tokenising a meetup though platform like a TryRoll, MeToken, and Rally.io and use Kickback to airdrop your community token to those attendees (you could either airdrop your tokens on Mainnet or could use this ERC20 bridge to xDAI and airdrop in the chain to benefit from cheaper gas).

Personal tokens have been initially issued by NFT artists such as $HUE (Connie Digital) and $SKULL, as a mean to give airdrops to their fans or medium of exchange to purchase their new NFT art , and it seems to be taking off for the last few months.

You may think that personal tokens are for influencers and artists, but you could use it for more casually to track kudos to those who volunteer at your local meetups.

$JOON, the former Coindesk journalist who has the experience of managing large crypto events such as Consensus 2020 and now issues his own personal token, thinks this will become the next big area and he has been brainstorming his ideas while hosting his “Personal token meetups” on Kickback, and we think that airdropping tokens to your event participants is the perfect way to distribute your community tokens. Joon is organising another personal token event inviting experts in this area.

As the first “double Kickback campaign”, xDAI team will airdrop 5 xDAI (as well as $JOON will airdrop some of his personal tokens) if you attend this event.

I highly recommend that you attend this event to get a better understanding of the world of personal tokens and tokenised meetups.

Then If you are interested in applying for the double Kickback campaign, please fill in the application form mentioning “xDAI double Kickback campaign” in the comment section (NOTE: If we receive more than ten applications, Kickback and xDAI team will select the winners).
