We launched a peer learning program at emlyon business school in December 2017. 100 students and shared about the sectors, job positions and career paths that truly motivates them.

We have received dozens of feedback with great passion about the program. “It should definitely be longer than 2 nights!(Joséphine G.) ” “Thank you for this thrilling experience (Pierre)” “Career choices is the best topic to talk about as we don’t stress on it enough in our education (Aurélia).

How do we do it?

During the 1st session, they start from sharing a professional role they have played in the past where they felt useful or enjoyed. Then, students shared about the a role they would like to do in the future.

Within one hour and half, each of them has synthesised a mission statement that comes from their most meaningful experience and inspiration.

The realm of these mission statements spreads in field of food industry, finance, learning and education, fashion industry, sport industry, entrepreneurship…

Teaching with games

Build an investment fund in crypto currencies sector

Develop digital transformation in medium-sized company in agriculture

… and many more!

After the 1st session, the students are grouped in peer groups by similar missions. They worked together to define the job that motivates them.

This orientation program has developed and deployed for 2 years, with 10 promotions, more than 400 participants.

Here are the testimonials:

“I was also really intrigued when I understood the outcome of the WAP: find a job that motivates us. Every time I am asked to explain my professional project, I always come up with something that could please recruiters, even though it does not please me. Now I know for sure that I will stop accepting the first job offer that I get, and start focusing on what is important to me in a job.“

“The variety of interests and passions made me confident in what animates and attracts me. I sometimes do not take my passions and my centers of interest into account before taking decisions about my professional orientation. WAP clearly was an invitation to listen more carefully to my deepest emotions.”

Even though we also have group discussion in other class, I was not really motivated to do the group discussion, I preferred to work alone. However, WAP is different from other classes I have taken, I feel that it is really focus on the idea of ‘’sharing with other and learning from peers’’. — Peiju

“I suggested her another private fund she could be interested in, and she thanked me just for that. Simply sharing can be that positive!”

“I start wonder what is really important in life; why do I make some choices, was it because I will be happy with them or just because it is the way that was obviously paved for us.” — Oumou

“My path is marketing-oriented, but I never said the word “marketing” in the 2 WAP days. I really wanted to discover what I wanted to do, and not what I said I wanted to do.”

Peer learning programs help diverse profiles in organizations to share motivations, knowledge, or experiences around a common topic, to find their orientation, create connections, help each other to learn and succeed.

We have worked with 44 organizations in 3 years, helping more than 2600 participants to find their orientation and engagement in education and work.
