Our Media is Compromised

--

Traditional media like The New York Times and The Washington Post have bent the knee to President Trump and his Project 2025 agenda. Tech-bro platforms like Substack (and this one) are probably teetering on the edge. Several writers I know have seen their views and earnings drop after covering key topics that Project 2025 aims to suppress — equality, women’s healthcare, racial justice, DEI, feminism, the environment, education, and more.

My guess? The engagement algorithms have been tweaked to amplify content that aligns with the new administration’s interests.

I originally launched Weathered on a self-hosted Ghost site. It worked well, but I decided to give Medium another try a year or so ago. I started with about 100 followers, and now we’ve grown to over 3,000. I’m deeply humbled and incredibly grateful. You are the reason I keep writingthank you for the inspiration.

That said, I’m gravely concerned about the next four years. I worry that Substack and Medium will cave and start silencing our voices — especially the voices of women and those who most need to be heard.

After careful thought, I’ve decided to migrate away from Medium. There won’t be an immediate change, but I’ll be moving my archive to a Ghost-hosted publication. I’ll continue posting on Medium for the next few months, but I’ll also be “shadow posting” on both platforms.

Weathered is moving, and I hope you’ll come with me. We’re a 3,000+ strong community — that’s something to be reckoned with.

Thank you,
T

I need your help with something. We’re migrating Weathered and I want you to join us at our new home. Come for the insightful articles and stay for the community. Thanks!
